I have a gelding that paws when he is being hauled in the horse trailer by himself. He never paws anywhere else, or if there is another horse in the trailer. Doesn't matter whether I'm hauling him for 15 minutes or 5 hours - he paws almost nonstop. Not in a frenzy or anything - just nonstop. Whenever I get to my destination, there is a mountain of shavings up underneath his belly because when he paws he throws it all up there.

I've been seeing the ads for the "Pawing Bracelets", and I was wondering if anyone had ever used them. If so, what were your results? Should I buy some?

Or teach him to hobble

That's what I would do.

I bought a pair the other day.....  put them on while the mare was in her pen 16X30.   I really thought it was going to work, but later that day when I went out to feed as soon as she saw me walking her way she started pawing. It's not a small or normal step pawing, but she throws the front leg up and out so its very exaggerated.   SO I have to say No they don't work.  I've tried hobbles that didn't work either, she just made smaller steps pawing.  The hobble are the kind with 4 chain links between so I took a spring snap to make the distance between the hobbles about 3".  Now she is down to teeny tiny paw steps.  I haven't tried the pawing bracelets in the trailer while traveling.... although she only paws when we come to a complete stop...  I guess she figures we're there and it's time to get out.
