| My gelding (11) has only been running barrels for 2 years, before that he was a head horse. He was running consistently in the 2d/3d depending on the day. For the last 3 or 4 races, he has blown way wide off the back side of 1st barrel and just fought me like crazy. 2nd & 3rd barrel is just beautiful still. (I run to the right). I have taken him back to the drawing board with slow work and just pasture riding. Gave him a month off, and last week he did the same thing. This is very unlike him, and I am looking for opinions as to what is causing him to do that. Thanks in advance ladies! |

Location: on a horse | I would definitely have him looked at. Something is bothering him as horses are very willing and if he wasn't doing this and started blowing barrels I would first and foremost rule out any soreness. Good luck |

| I would look at the stifle. Blowing off barrel is usually a stifle issue |

Location: IL | I rule out hock soreness. Also I've had a horse do this with stomach issues too. |

Location: Canada | Get the vet out and have him checked. It could be something minor like sore hocks or more serious like a torn ligament.
Best to get him checked out before you keep riding in the event that aggrivates an underlying issue.
Hope it's somthing easily fixed. |

I agree with this and if you go to right barrel first it would be the left stifle that has issue. |

Thank you! That helps alot, honestly, I figured it would be the right one, but that is very good knowledge to have! Thank you. I plan on getting a vet out early next week |

Yes think about when u leave the backside of the barrel the outside stifle is where all the weight and stress is at. If they are sore in that stifle they don't want to finish the turn. Some other signs that it might be stifle are they don't want to back straight especially if just one is sore, don't stop straight or hard and sometimes feel like they step in a hole with back leg. |

Location: Bandera, TX | High Suspensory in my past horses. But, non the less you need a good lameness vet that can block and spend time with an ultasound and x-rays to get to the bottom of this issue. Block out 2 hours for a vet visit. Luck to you. |

Location: Texas | Here's a horse who was very sore in his hocks... He is on previcox and it makes a world of a difference between injections.
