Has anyone done this and why? Reason for asking. I have a mare that was on stall rest and beginning of year for 2 months. She appeared to get a little fat. I am back to running her she is working better then ever and running faster then ever. Looks great and feels great, hair shines, eats, drinks, poop, pee all normal, but could not get the weight off her. Now looking at her more theis week I think it is bloat and not fat. We have noticed that she is gasing. Have not took to vet sense I just really started thinking more that she is bloated. I saw on another forum where horses on stall rest can sometimes get bloated and giving them epsom salt would take care of it. Just wondering if anyone on here as ever do it. I know gas can be bad but she has never coliced and is the picture of health right now just bloated and like I sad she has never ran better. There have been no changes to feed or anything.

I remember we used to feed my pony Epsom salt and my grandpa always said it was because she had a cresty neck??? Really makes no since now. I do know Epsom salt is a laxative...

Epsom salt is magnesium, which is excellent for insulin resistant horses and horses prone to laminitis.
