I hadn't been having any problems with him until Thursday night. I took him to a jackpot and he decided he didn't want to stop when I breezed him before our run and he didn't stop or really even slow down in the alley after our run. It was cool so I thought maybe he just felt good. Took him to another barrel race at the same arena today. This time I didn't breeze him but same thing in the alley way. I haven't changed anything at all so that's not it. His teeth haven't been too long been done either. He's 14 and never had this problem before. So what else could it be? He has a vet appointment in 2 weeks anyway for normal maintenance so if it could be a vet issue I can have it seen about then.
ETA.... I forgot I did change his bit a couple weeks ago. He was running in a Jim Warner hack and I changed him to a O ring with a Mullen mouth and rope nose.

Check hocks. I know this gets old but EPM can cause this too.

I don't know anything about EPM but this is his only issue. He stops fine breezing him at home.

Im probably gonna be the odd ball here but my horse did this when his saddle didn't fit anymore. and he did this first and then he started to get upset after I stopped him. I thought my saddle fit and didn't have any issues for a long time. I don't know if his body changed or what but I figured out when you lean forward the saddle was hitting his withers. It takes me a while to figure out what is wrong because my horse always works and tries. Also could be a breathing issue too.

Could be his hocks or suspensory. My quit stopping with he tore is suspensory. He had no other symptoms except that he quit stopping.

Put your hack back on and see if you still have the problem.

I agree. And if not, it is probably pain related. I had a gelding who did this and he had the start of ringbone. His foot was hurting so he just got kinda ticked everytime I ran him.

Get him looked at and when the vet says there is nothing wrong, go to another vet. My good horse had done this for the past year, got worse every time. Then ran to a closed gate and when he finally stopped right at the gate he broke his coffin bone and his pastern bone....so now because I didn't check further into what was going on I have a crippled horse.......

Something hurts.
Even with the bit change if the horse knew how to stop and when to stop I doubt you would have gone from whoa to nothing without something else going on
