Is this ranch getting ready to ship out or something? Call me cynical, but to me thus screams that they have something big happening and need an extra horse for the work. I'd be willing to bet money that st the end of the week, they return the horse and say he just isn't what they are looking for.
This was EXACTLY my first thought. I wouldn't do it.

Location: Phoenix | Tell 'em they can put shoes on him and take him for a week (and keep him) once they pay for him!! And no returns. The week trial I might consider in certain circumstances, but not the shoes. If they want a ranch horse thy should be looking at RANCH horses. Not barrel horses. JMO.

| Boy Oh Boy, what a mess, so I get shoes on him, the gentleman calls me today. He wants to draw up a contract, that he will NOT be responsible if this horse gets hurt at his ranch. Then to add insult he is offering $4,000 lower what I wanted for him, I wanted 6,500, he offer 2,500, I say a BIG Fat NO!!!! Learn a Big Lesson today, oh he did tell me Ranch Horses doesn't go for that much, ok what ever. Thanks for everyone's opinion. With this horse he would do good at a Ranch, he is blown up on the barrels, I didn't do my home work when I bought him last year, & the owners didn't say anything, another lesson learned

Sounds like maybe he's not crazy, just a jerk! (And you're a lot nicer than I would be by referring to him as a gentleman!) Ranch horses are like all horses, they sell for what they're worth. I think you really dodged a bullet with this one. As a seller, I'm all about being accommodating to reasonable requests, but this guy sounds like a real piece of work. If he wants the horse he'll buy it. If he doesn't agree with the price, that should have been brought up early in the discussion. Don't worry, we've all made mistakes and learned lessons.

From what you've told us it's a wonder this individual didn't just ask you to GIVE him the horse. You are nicer than a lot of folks would've been, and here's hoping a good fit for your horse comes along soon.
