| I'm the one that plans my barns annual fun show. Last year was the first year I did and people actually enjoyed it. This year I'm trying to come up with some more classes and failing. Most of the people participating will be barrel racers, and it's mostly kids. So any help coming up with classes is appreciated. I need simple games they can do on horses. | |

Location: Jersey Girl | We always did:
Candy race (race down, eat a piece of candy, race back) Cracker race (race down, eat a cracker, can't leave until you can whistle) Barrel crawl (race down, rider dismounts crawls thru a barrel, gets on races back) Dizzy Cowboy- race down, dismount, do 5 turns around a baseball bat, run back leading your horse. (your forehead is pressed on top of the bat doing the circles)

Location: mi | If your barrel racers have sensible horses we do at our fun shows. (mostly pleasure horses but a few barrel racers) Egg and Spoon. Basically a rail class doing changes of gates while you guessed it holding an egg on a spoon. Ride a buck, bareback with a dollar under your hiney or thigh again doing chages of gates last one with the dollar wins all of the dollars that were lost. Ribbon race. take about a 3 foot long piece of tissue ribbon. Like you use for decorating. held between 2 riders and again give them commands they have to follow. Last pair with their ribbon unbroken wins. Back to Back bareback can get dangerous but is really a blast. That is 2 riders riding bareback and double but the back rider faces backwards. Again they must follow commands and at some point they are told to switch and without getting off they have to change front and back riders. (this is usually where everyone falls off) Last pair on wins.

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | Ribbon race is where you put one barrel at the other end of the arena. Take a piece of 2 inch wide about 5 foot long crate paper ribbon and 2 riders have to hold on to it without breaking or letting go of it. Its a timed speed event. They have to go down and around the barrel. Most kids like it because it is a speed event and it goes fast. They can pair up with multiple people.

| Ride a buck - bareback with a dollar under the leg, last one to loose their dollar keeps all the other dollars
Rope race - two riders, hold a rope, and go around the track without letting go of rope - fastest time wins
fastest horse around the track - setup 2 barrels at end of arena to square off the pen, must go outside barrels, fastest time wins
mailbag - ride down, someone throws mailbag off of 3rd barrel.
keyhole - draw a keyhole shape on the ground with lime. run in, turn around, run out, fastest time wins. (lots of horses spook at the lime, or step out of the hole in the turnaround
barrels, poles, speed barrel
double bareback go as you please - just as it sounds
drink race - drink in a cup on the 3rd barrel. run down, dismount, drink whole cup, remount, run back
switch off - one rider runs down to 3rd barrel, dismount, 2nd rider waiting behind 3rd barrel mounts and runs back.
egg and spoon
baby bottle race - 2 riders, rider in front holds bottle for rear rider to drink. rear rider cannot touch the bottle. must perform gaits, and first one to finish bottle wins
simon says (self explanatory)
potato race - run down, grab potato without dropping potato or knocking barrel
phone book race - have a phone book or some numbered page book - rider enters arena, calls out page number, rider runs down, dismounts, finds page number, rips it out, remounts and runs back. page number must be correct.
pony express - 2 horse/riders. one rider starts at in gate with mail. other rider is waiting at opposite end on their horse. rider 1 runs to other rider, hands off mail, and 2nd rider runs it back to the gate.

Location: In between 4 ridges | The boot race is fun. Everyone lines up inside the gate, everyone missing one boot which is taken to the other end of the arena and put in a pile. Announcer says go and you all race down, get off and find your boot. The first one back across the timer with the correct boot on wins.
Catalog race - phone book on the 3rd barrel. Announcer gives you a page number and you race down find your page and race back.
Any kind of trail class.
Ride a buck was always fun.

| Magazine race (I've gotten tossed so many times during this stupid thing, it's not even funny.....bahahaha)
Rescue Race - Another dangerous one - Run down, pick up partner, run back.
Pony Express - Partner event, one has a saddle bag, run around the whole arena, hands it to the other person when they get back to the gate, then the other person runs around and fastest time wins.
