He's been lame for several months. Vet looked at him and said he's probably at the beginnings of founder and suggested we put him in soft rides. So I did. Farrier had surgery so his back up man came out to put shoes back on and thinks he might have EMS. I asked you vet about it and she said "nothing to suggest it on physical exam". He's not obese, but after reading and listening to a webinar I see that he doesn't have to be to have a metabolic condition. So...what do I do?

There are so many things that would need figured out.. is he lame with Laminitis due to grass or high Suger/starch intake? He may have grass founder ...Cushings they usually show outward signs of the disease gradually over time. What is your horse eating diet? and is he on pasture. alfalfa is not good for horses with Laminitis issues... you need No grain or low NSC ....Metabolic issues they also can not handle it .. a change of diet sometimes will help alot. MY cushings mare is ON wet Timothy pellets
(No grain
) ,soaked beet pulp
(Molasses free
) and Cool Calories for her fat and keep weight up . Shes also ON the cushings med Pergolide . She has advanced but comfortable and happy right at this moment.

Laminitis is usually seen long after the other signs of Cushings. Not saying its not a possiblity, but might be something else.

Check into Insulin Resistance. I have dealt with it in a super skinny broodmare that had laminitis issues and now have a super fat gelding that I suspect has it, but he has no feet problems.
