Me and my husband are in the birthday party business. We do pony rides, inflatables, mechanical bull, and a traveling petting zoo. We are in the process of building a barn that will be a petting zoo open full time. We already have the inflatables so we wanted to put them indoors so we could have parties in the winter also. But my husband and I disagree on one thing. The costs of heating and cooling a 50x125 barn are way more than we can afford right now so we had talked about fans..my husband says that people won't come play if it is not heated and cooled and the inflatables set up won't make a difference. .he said he wants to fet rid of the inflatables completely if we don't have an account unit. The party room where tables and chairs will have an account unit so it will just be where the animals are in the barn and the inflatable room that wont... now I'm a mom of two kids and I know I would come just to let them bounce anf get to sit and relax even if we don't have hear or air...what do yall think? Also if you went to or have been to a petting zoo or safari park or take your kids anywhere. .what would bring you back?

My first question is how cold does your area get in the winter, and how cold will the building be?

we are in tennessee.. our average winter Temps are in the 40's some days might be 65 and some days might be 25. We usually get 1-2 snows a year and they usually last 1 day.

also inflatables would be inside a metal building with insulation and no doors open. It will be separate from the barn area. We will have a roll up door in the summer with big fans

PufttTT!! Let the panzy children go somewhere else. As a child I went to the playground year round and always managed to have fun without heat or AC. The inflatables might get brittle in severe cold tho. Have you thought about wood heat?

I, personally, think it would be a better decision to not have the cooling system in the animal and inflatable areas. Kids are resilient for one, and it's just not completely necessary.  I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take our daughter.

I'm in southern Louisiana so if it drops into the 30's we just doing go outside, lol. But if I saw an ad for your place with inflatables and a petting zoo, I'd bring the kids and wouldn't even expect to see ac or heat. If you want to be in conditioned air go bowling. When you bring animals and outside play toys like inflatables, I'd expect them to be outside in the weather. It would be nice that they are covered or even indoors for the winter, but not expected. Maybe if the summers get really hot, have an ac area, like a big shed/room with a window unit ac for the whiny parents to go sit in to cool off and get a drink. Or even one of those window units that can be used for heat or cool so it can be warm in the winter.

We go to a christmas tree farm every year because they have a festival with farmers market type booths, a playground for the kids, christmas trees, animals, etc. The only thing there that has heat is a 1-room cabin type building that sells hot chocolate, bicuits and another 1-room building that sells things like ornaments. People end up buying stuff because it's comfortable in those buildings, so that may be a good sales idea, lol.

Outdoor activites are great.. Id open the doors for ventilation and huge fans and in winter maybe have hot chocolate etc.. sounds fun!! but no ac or heat.. in my opinion because it kinda ruins the outdoor fun feel..
