They want to be able to compete and win and then as owners pocket any profit that the association brings in as well.....its like one of those non-profits that pays its board members a ton of money. I'll tell you this...I am not knocking the ERA...in fact I like the options. I'll enter my first American Qualifier next year, and I'll go to my normal PRCA rodeos, and I'll enjoy the local UPRA rodeos we have, and I'll go to all the added money races I can afford to hit in between...keep my horses in shape at the local jackpots......and I am sure that one day if there is a qualification system set out for the ERA that I will try and do that too. I wish it didn't have to be a ****ing contest between everyone. Options are good. I will always love watching everyone compete at the NFR and the American and the BBR finals, and the WPRA finals and the UPRA finals hahahaha...and that is not going to change. If its on TV then I am going to watch it and if I can participate then I am going to try it. As far as the reason the ERA was set up...PR says its about growing the sport....its not, its about growing wallets...and I am ok with that honestly...but its hard to have to let go of tradition sometimes. And having some of those people at the finals every year has become a tradition for me and a lot of people.

The ERA and its athletes are committed to the sport of rodeo, its fans, and are determined to grow the sport. They want to assure fans that these newest bylaws will not affect in anyway the vision of the ERA and making rodeo better for future generations. As mentioned in a September 15th ERA Athlete announcement, the ERA Tour will be the athlete’s primary focus for their 2016 rodeo seasons. However, they want to reassure fans that they will still be competing at traditional rodeo events during the 2016 season, but have elected to not participate in other tour-formatted events. Their focus and commitment is fueled by their desire to leave the sport better than they found it. For the first time in rodeo history, the sport of rodeo and its top athletes will be showcased on a national stage with ERA’s partnership with FOX Sports. As is the case with other professional sports, this increased exposure will enhance the sport and its participation at all levels. I am not trying to argue, but that happens a lot everywhere. I spent $250 in stalls and entry fees and drove 6 hrs to a 3 day race. I won $70. And I was floored I even managed that | |

Somewhere in America today, a barrel-racer will load her horse/s onto her LQ, grab a beer out of her fridge, sit on the leather couch and gripe about the high cost of racing.
Somewhere else in America today, a barrel-racer will load her horse into a stock trailer, grab a beer out of her cooler, sit on the tailgate of her old truck and talk about the great time she had today.
I just love this   It is so stinking true. I go to some local races but I LOVE to goooooo....I am a single mom and I work a 8-5 job. I have an early 90's "ugly as sin" trails west horse trailer with a homemade dressing room (mattress, table, ac) and an 08 Ford truck with over 300k miles on it. I have a generator so I don't pay for plug ins. If I am off on a "rodeo run" (vacation) then for four or five days I will take a shower at the facility or get a CHEAP room somewhere...or else I just rough it and use all my daughters baby wipes haha....TWICE over the past couple weeks I have been told that I need to upgrade my rig to match the horse I am hauling inside of it. It REALLY HURT MY FEELINGS...until I outran them :) I like my rig...my horse is still running hard...and he seems to like it as well. I am sure that one day I will upgrade...but it will take me selling this one and saving up a three or four thousand so that I can buy another very used but newer trailer to avoid having a trailer payment. I don't haul full time but I do get to see some awesome places and I can afford to because if I win something it goes right back to my entry fee money or whatever...not to making a rig payment. I will probably never be able to afford a rig to match my horses worth...but we sure do have fun. And it is expensive...but if I can afford to do it then a lot of people who didn't have the "luxury" aspect of it could afford to do it too. Now for the girls that live in their trailers I think its different...that is like their mortgage...but people ask me all the time how I afford to go so many different places to run and then they pull up to the local jackpot, 20 miles away in a freightliner haha.........I AM NOT KNOCKING THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD TO DO IT...AND WHO DO IT FOR FUN AND ARE HAPPY HAULING TO THE LOCALS IN LUXURY...LORD KNOWS IF I COULD I WOULD DO IT IN A HEARTBEAT. But you will not see me trading luxury for traveling...I just love it too much. If I could afford to I would pull the biggest rig in the world to my neighbors house hahahaha...I think its so cool that people are blessed enough to do that!!! | |

Wouldn't that be nice? I haven't read the rules or anything for the ERA...in fact I am not even sure that there are any posted or released yet. How cool would it be if you made the tour and didn't have to pay fees...I am just not sure how that would work though. I have been comparing the Champions Challenges to the ERA tour...but if you don't have to pay fees than that is a completely different deal. In that case the cowboys/athletes...or whatever we are calling them...would be treated more like professional athletes...and that isn't such a bad deal.

Not sure, but I don't think they pay an entry fee for the Champion Challenges.

I love this too...dont get me wrong, if I could aford the luxury I would have a brand new truck and gigantic trailer. We did High school Rodeo with a dressing room/ac, microwave and borrowed showers. But we loved every second of it! I thougjt the ERA rodeos would not have entry fees, Im not really up on anything, but I really thought that was like part of the idea...like other pro atheletes, they get paid to play, not pay to play...
Oh I didnt know that...I have had a couple friends a the Champions Challenges this year and last year but I dont ever think to ask questions like that haha. So maybe there really isnt a big difference afterall between the ERA and Champions Challenge rodeos. I literally had not even thought about that aspect for the athletes....I was just thinking about how much money they would be paid as owners of the ERA...but hadnt thought about the fact that they literally would pay nothing out of pocket to compete...except travel maybe...which then they could just expense right back to the ERA since they were owners. Free money! Sign me up hahaha | |
