Vet's office gave me pills that say "M 227" on them and told me to feed one per day. I thought the dose was 58m per day for a horse? I just don't want to feed her too much. Thinking the assistant possibly gave me the wrong pills??? Thanks in advance!

****, some vets are fricken scary!!!!!! Not everyone has a board to check dosages on. Some folks follow what's on the bottle. That vet almost had you give a quadruple dose!

Yep! I am glad I had done some research before I even got it so I knew something wasn't right when I looked at the pill! Thank you everyone!!

Yep, I give 1/4 a day to the one we have on it. Thankfully my vet also divids them for me so I dont have to try to cut them. You might see if they can quarter them for you. Most have a cutter and it takes them about 2 minutes to quarter a bottle. ALOT easier and then all your quarters are even and not shattered.

I believe we were told that the 227 mg is the dosage for a large dog.  Not sure why the dog dosage is so much greater than the horse recommendation.  Dividing the 227 mg tablet into 1/4ths saves alot of money for horse people and well worth the trouble.

Dogs metabolize the drug much differently than a horse. My 12 pound Jack Russel Gets same dose as my horse.

the first day, give 3/4 loading dose, then 1/4 thereafter, if you forget a dose, you have to start with loading dose again

How many days do you normally give it?

It is labeled for 14 days consecutively but a lot of people give it every single day.

I was giving my mare 1/4 tab daily all summer but she now has a tooth root infection so my vet suggested to bump her up to 1/2 tab if need be.

Be careful how long you give it.  It can cause issues, one being the kidneys.

like people, if on it long term, can't a simple blood test be given to keep an eye on the kidneys...i'm still having some of the same mysterious issues with my mare and am now trying the Prevacox before spending more money on xrays, MRI...my vet says it;s just arthritis in her right hock/front leg so I did the 7 loading dose of Adequan. WHile it did help overall, it did not help what her real issue is ... she is I would say 90% while in movement. However, while standing still and asking her for either of her front feet, she cannot pick them up and if she does, she immediately rocks back or begins to buckle underneath herself ... unless, you are massaging her neck at the poll and about 3-4 inches down the neck .. then she can stand fine. I do the red light therapy on her and she loves when I work with her neck. While she may have arthritis in her neck, I'm pretty sure I will have to take her for xrays but trying the Prevacox first. She's been on it since Tuesday..I started two days at a half tab and a quarter since then. Asked for her front feet last night and she immediately picked them up (usually she refused) but I didn't hold it up ... just wanted to see how willing she was. It appears to be helping but the jury is out until I get several more days in her. I'll be keeping up with the mainenance of the Adequan as well .. she is 25 and has had a pretty easy life. WE think maybe she did something late Spring -- slipped on ice or something similar -- to jack up her neck as this is when it started.

1/4 tab and I snap them with my fingers.  No cutter needed.  My gelding gets them 365 days a year as per my vet instructions.
