| I bought one this weekend. Not really a color I set out to choose, it just happened. Horse was bred my way-------Hollywood jac 86, docs prescription, genuine doc, peppy San, Hollywood dun it, shinning spark. I have red that a perlino is not prone to sunburn? He has no markings of any kind. I'd think he'd be less likely than a bald face. Opinions |

| Yes, he will sunburn. Always needs a fly mask, for sure. One with nose protection if possible or you will have to put sunscreen on. |

| I believe all double dilutes have pink skin so all can sunburn. Some will more than others, so you may just have to watch him for a while and see if he does enough to matter. |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | I know people that have had cremellos and perlinos for 20+ YEARS and they swear that they do NOT sunburn. Their skin isn't totally lacking pigment like a horse that has white markings and REALLY pink skin. That said, I have ZERO personal experience with them myself. |

Location: West Texas | We have 3 here right now and they appear to sunburn and be sensitive to the sun to me. Two of them are weanlings and the other is a 3 year old. |

| Guy I bought him from said he had never sun burned. I believe him. Is the sun good for him? Probably not. A little online research (scholarly articles) turned up perlino is by far not as likely to have issues as other colors. I came here for personal experiences. I really like the horse, and even if I didn't, he's entitled to the best care he can get. |

| I have a cremello so another double dilute, she has a large strip so her face is a bit sensitive just like any other horse with a white blaze or stripe. Otherwise I have had her for two years and she hasn't sunburned once. |

Location: "...way down south in the Everglades..." | My Champagne (and yes, I know not quite a Perlino :-)) doesn't sunburn except her face but she does appear more sensitive. I agree with those that said fly masks, you may need fly sheet, just see how this one does. Also, there's a product called Healthy Haircare Sunflower Sunscreen...I've found it works IMO and even helps some of the darker colors from bleaching out quite as bad. |

Location: Texas | I owned a Perlino mare for several years & she was a bit more sensitive to the sun. Never actually sunburned with me but I kept a fly mask on her most of the time for her blue eyes. |

Location: Around here somewhere... | I think it depends on the individual, your location, and how their housed. I've never had one sunburn, and I never put anything on them, but I've seen some that burned! I've had Paints that would burn, so they wore sunscreen and fly masks, but my perlinos never did. Just be prepared to protect your horse if he needs it. |

| I have a cremillo with a huge blaze and I keep a fly mask on her because her muzzle area and behind her ears get very sensitive but other than that she doesn't have much trouble. |

Location: Central Montana | I have a Cremello - Dunit In Creme - Hollywood Dun It/Be Ach Enterprise/Powder River Playboy lines.
I put a mask on him every morning and take it off at night during the summer, in the winter I don't use it. I use a Cashel mask that has UV protection. He has sunburned around his flanks where the skin is very very pink so on really bright days in the summer he also wears a fly sheet.
