Reining

Hey yβall, I have some very excited news I just got hired at a reining horse ranch! The owner is a world champion and is in the hall of fame. This is such a great opportunity that I'm extremely blessed to have. My new job sounds so exciting there gonna teach me to do everything! I get to halter break colts, learn to give medicines to them, and as I progress there gonna take me to the shows with them and teach me to drive with a horse trailer and let me run errands and such. They also want t teach me to rein. I personally donβt know much about the reining world. So I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about it. Like the patterns, the bloodlines that are big in that industry, just stuff about it in general. Thanks!

I think I'm a tad jealous. Congrats on the new job. I'll try to respond tomorrow and answer some of your questions as I rein. But I'm off to bed right now.

Congrats!!! I just got hired at a cutting ranch. I have been working there for 3 weeks and I had my first cutting lesson yesterday!! It defiantly was a learning experience. I feed, clean stalls, work with yearlings, put horses on the walker, and I now have a horse that thy want me to keep in shape and possible show in cutting!
I am super excited for you! It is defiantly going to be a learning experience!

Hi. Sorry didn't get back to you, busy weekend with it being our Thanksgiving here
(Canada
). Congrats on the recent job. I am a tad jealous. I compete in reining and I love, love, love it. But it is challenging.
If you go on the National Reining Horse Association you will find all the patterns for reining. You will also find lots of info in general about reining on that site. I suggest studying up on how it's judged. Everyone starts in the arena with a base score of 70, then every manuever is graded from -1 1/2 to + 1 1/2 depending on how the judge sees it. Those plus or minuses are then added or deducted from your 70 to get your score. There are also penalty points given for things like trotting anywhere in the pattern, over or underspinning and a few others.
Bloodlines that are hot right now are anything 'Shining Spark' and anything 'Colonels Smoking Gun
(aka Gunner
)' and any of there offspring. Einsteins Revolution is popular as is Gallo Del Ceilo. There are many others too. If you You tube or google reining you will learn lots watching and reading.
Would love to know who you are working for. Pm me if you want. Enjoy this is a great learning opportunity. Even if you don't love reining and prefer barrel racing this opportunity will help your barrel racing a lot.
