Thank you guys, the pictures are really helpful to me. We have a couple Jeff smith saddles and like them really well. They are cutting saddles and not barrel saddles. I am kind of leaning that way, but not sure. I think we are looking for a saddle that sits you well in the middle and has stirrups hung not too far forward. Current barrel saddle is too big and has a tendency to place the legs too forward and throw this particular rider to the back of the seat, coming out of turns etc.

Β Both of my saddles sit nice and balanced. The Jeff Smith doesn't allow me to get forward and I can't get up and really hustle a horse if needed. My 5 yo stays in rate mode, so I have to have something I can stand up in and get off my butt between the barrels, hence the coats. That being said, on young horses that are unpredictable and still hip high, I can't ride my coats on them bc if they do something they shouldn't, it doesn't sit me in a position to sit down and ride them through a colt moment. You should look at the Allen ranch saddles or shiloh saddles. Both are nice quality and put you in a balanced position. I also love the coats but am partial to one particular tree.

rachellyn80 - 2015-10-16 8:46 AM I finally got to take some exhibitions on my bay mare in my new saddle and I'm in LOVEΒ
dang that is nice. Who's the maker on it?

It's an Allen Ranch on a modified Bob Marshall cutting tree. Β They made it a 14" with a higher cantle and higher rise. Β It's probably a little tall fronted for some people, but it's exactly what I wanted. Β I'm so long legged that I have to sit up straight and not get out over my horses anyway. Β I've never had a saddle that fit me so well! Β Here's the tree that's in it.Β

Β  I need that. A saddle built for taller riders would be perfect for me.

I have a Caldwell but the love of my life is my new (to me) Vernon Purdy.  The Purdy saddles fit most anything you put it on.  Did I say I love my Purdy saddle.  Wish I could post pictures just not computer literate.  He has a website that shows lots of his saddles.
