Location: Always on call..... | Biotin 100 from NANRIC.com. When my horse had a coffin bone fracture his soles were very thin, both my vet and farrier recommended this. It is 100 mg of biotin per serving as well. Way more than most biotin supplements. We were taking x rays of my horses hoof every 6 weeks for the fracture and you could see the sole getting thicker every time. I put all my horses on it and each farrier I have had since then raves about how great their feet are. |

Location: Willows, CA | You will have more luck with a better overall diet than with biotin added to a poor one. A normally functioning hind gut using a forage based diet will produce all the biotin that a horse can use. If you add biotin and really change hoof condition you have other issues going on that should be addressed. |

I have used Biotin Hoof Blast, which has 100 mg of Biotin per dose and MSM.
It is the only hoof product I have ran across that has MSM in it, which is always a benefit.
I found it went I was in the NW, but since have bought it online at www.horseguard.com
Its relatively inexpensive for what is in the product. My 10lb bag last 80days.
I use it on my rescue horses that have awful feet. |

I agree with winwillows. Since having his teeth worked on, changing his feed - quality forage, just a little oats and flax and adding Cur-Ost supplements - the crack that went up to the coronary band is growing out. My farrier thought that it was something he would always have, but apparently not. It's amazing all the changes that come about when you address their hind gut issues. |

| I am gong through the same thing, but mine started out as an abscess that blew, then dirt got in the hole and caused more damage. We are in the process of removing the hoof wall where the crack is. To strengthen the lamania, I am using 5% iodine soaks.
As win willows states, feed is just as important, I feed 1 cup of flax daily, 60 cc of liquid oil daily with her feed.
Milk powder is supposed to help thicken up the hoof wall.
Biotin helps the foot grow faster.
Proper foot care is important, mine gets trimmed every 4-5 weeks, and is currently living in hoof boots.
To moisturize the hoof wall, fish oil applied at the cornet band is the best, did this upon recommendation of my vet, 2 week checkup, the vet was amazed at how well his feet looked. I use cheap fish oil capsules from wallmart, 2 capsules per foot.
Gorilla glue in the crack my friend swears by this, I tried it on mine, but since the dirt keeps migrating under the hoof wall, her foot kept shifting so one side of the crack would be 1/2" unaligned with the other side.
Good luck, diligence is key, and it can take up to 18 months to grow out |
