A friend and I booked the Stratosphere during the NFR a couple years ago. We ended up changing hotels after the first night. It was just dead there and away from all the action. Room rates were great and rooms weren't bad, I just prefer to be at the other end of the strip. I've stayed at Excalibur for about the same rates and enjoy it there a lot more.

You are going to be A LONG ways from everything, except cowboy christmas I guess... closer to downtown at the Strat than you are the south end of strip.
Lots of other "cheaper" places that put you in the heart of the action. Unless you are renting a car, your cab fees are going to eat up all the money you saved by getting that room.

Cheap hotel but far away. You can stay cheap at Excalibur and its a decent hotel and a lot closer to everything! We will be staying at MGM for the first 5 nights. CANT WAIT!!!

It is at the far end but it depends on what you will be doing during your stay. Will you be going to the Thomas & Mack to watch a performance? It is the transportation that cost the most if you will be going to the NFR but most hotels have shuttles. And even if Statosphere doesnt, one next door may?

We stayed there once and it is older but I think in a much more nostalgic way than the Excalibur, jmo- they are both cheap. We did not like the Excalibur. We enjoyed our stay @ the Straosphere, the band was great and downtown is cool.

The stratosphere seemed sketchy to me last time I was down there, plus it's quite a ways from everything off the strip.
I prefer Excalibur.

My husband and I like the Stratosphere. It is a little older but it's not bad at all. We stayed in a suite there for our honeymoon last year. We got a coupon in the mail from them for 3 free nights so we are using that for our Vegas trip this year.. We are staying there for 5 nights for $125 total.. Kind of hard to pass that deal up when MGM is over $700. Now we can afford more NFR tickets, lol.. and we are getting a rental car.. so being so far out isn't that big of a deal to us. Plus, if you stay at Stratosphere you can go to the top of the tower for free. Top of the World restaurant is sooo good. (expensive too) They have a really good place to eat called Roxy's Diner and the Italian restaurant there is delicious. And to us it didn't seem sketchy at all!! Have fun!!

We have stayed at The Golden Nugget on Freemont Street several times.  Great atmosphere.  Our first stop in the little cafe on the corner, Golden Gate (I think) love the food there.  We took the shuttles to and back from the NFR each night and the days we went to the stip and cowboy christmas we bought and all day buss pass for very cheap.

Harrahs! It's in the middle of the strip and backs up to the rail which gives u easy access to all the cowboy Xmas venues. Also have everyone in your party get a players card and even if u don't gamble a lot give it to checkout wherever you buy food, coffee or gifts in the hotel/casino. If you do this you may be able to get part of your room comped when u leave! I'm only paying the $25 a night resort fee for 3 nights! Also they have a free shuttle to the rodeo!

Just depends on what you are wanting to do. We love the South Point because the Bucking Horse Sale, Permit Challenge, Trade Show, NFR Go-Round Buckle Awards presentation.....No where near the strip/downtown, yet it is easy to get to all of the Cowboy Christmas stuff (MGM, Sands, Convention Center). They do have a shuttle to the NFR each night.

The price is right and you can take the monorail to get places. I personally like staying at Harrahs or close to that just for location, but the times I've stayed at Straosphere is was fine.

We stay at the Nugget, too. We love it down there. When we go to the rodeo, the buses are great! The gambling on Fremont street is fun, too. I will only go to 5 or 10 dollar blackjack tables. They replay the performances on the TV's in the casinos. I am sure the other places do too, we just really like the Nugget and Fremont Street.

I have not been during the NFR but I have stayed at New York New York, Caesar's Palace, Harrah's (twice), and the Golden Nugget in downtown on Fremont.  Loved being downtown - really fun.  I will never stay at Harrah's again.  Caesar's was my favorite but of those I listed Harrah's is the only one I won't stay at again - nothing major other than the shower not draining, toilet not working correctly, power outage for several hours.  I gave it a 2nd chance and it was not a good experience which is why I won't do it again.
