 A Gopher's Worst Nightmare

Location: Southern Oregon | I am curious as to what everyone is paying for indoor arenas to be installed on on there property? If you could list the size and the price you paid that would be great. Right now I am using my friends indoor, but it is a little on small side to work a complete pattern. |

Location: Red Raiderland | We built a covered(80x120), not indoor, and I believe it cost about $85K. I can't RUN a pattern in there but I can sure high lope and obviously do a lot of slow work. I love it to work the horses just legging them up when we have had so much rain like we have had in the last week or when it is just blazing hot in the summer.

Location: north dakota | It depends on the area you live in. Up here in ND it costs more to accommodate the snow load. The cheapest I've heard for 70x 110 built is around 100,000 for a pole barn type indoor. It costs alot more when you go wider than that than if you go longer. |

Thanks SPTG! You need to come up here and try it out. We could do some great trail ridin, too, just ask Herbie, Canchasr1 and Luckyjo! |

| Two suggestions---Make it large enough. A guy that built one near me has one so small that you cannot set up a correct pole pattern. It is too short. Do not put sky lights in it. They will deteriorate over time and break. |

I disagree with not putting skylights in. I love our skylights and if they deteriorate they aren't that much to replace. The pole pattern is no biggie to me because I can do that in my outdoor area. I set up cones in my covered and I have plenty of length for them. |

Thanks that sounds like alot of fun, I miss going on some long trail rides, one day I will take you up on the trail rideing . I agree with the sky lights, I would put them in also if I were to ever build a covered arena, I know a few people that have skylights and love the heck out of having them, you get so much light coming threw. My house has skylights and its all ready 20 years old and the skylights have never been replaced yet. |

| My shop HAD skylights in it and I got tired of hail putting holes in it. Too much has. sel. Damage to equipment inside. The last time the ins guy was out he said you are going to replace with metal aren't you??? It cost more but worth it. |

If you can't make a run in that pen, don't come up here to rodeo or jackpot in the winter! Many of the rodeos are held at fairs....on a race track. I have run in a 40' wide pen a couple of times (most are at lest 60' wide)....makes it interesting. I also ran at a barn a couple of years ago in an 80' x 80' arena, then they put in the chutes and back pens...also interesting. I ran an 11 something on my 16.2 h mare. I've gotten so used to little pens I find I have issues with timing and sitting down too soon in big pens and crash barrels MORE often.
Gorgeous barn, by the way. |
