I have a question. How many of you actually get Sports Illustrated and read it?

I used to buy the swimsuit edition every year. Does that count?
Frodo... The "Grueling" hours spent doing what horses are born to do anyway? Think of all the time spent by a baseball team playing 162 regular (3+hour) games each year.+ the Spring Training...+ all the years spent on AA and AAA farm teams to get ON a pro team... Plus the HS and college years playing...
I still say, give the award to someone that can appreciate it. The horses have the "Horse Of The Year" award... That should be good enough to appease the owner, trainer and jockey. I have no doubt that will go to AP.

First of all, if you don't read a particular magazine, why would you even worry about what is on the cover???? I have to agree with Komet. I am quit sure that AP is or will be on the cover of every Racing magazine. Never have really associated Sports Illustrated with racing publications.

Sportsman of the Year is a different honor (it's not about the cover). Even if he doesn't win, he's still in a close-ish second to the Royals by a pretty big margin over the other nominees. That right there tells me that people are thinking about AP and racing, even if it's just enough to cast a ballot. AP probably won't know about or care about being Horse of the Year, either. Heck, I bet he doesn't know or care about the incredible and historical things he's done in the last six months. He was just out for a run! That doesn't mean that we can't or shouldn't celebrate him.

..and he HAS been celebrated... he is now retired to a life of fine care, fine food and fine mares.... at the age of 3!!!
THAT he understands!!!!
