 Underestimated Underdog

Location: Minnesota | My old mare passed unexpectedly last winter and I haven't decided what I would like to do to remember her yet. I have her tail, her halter and lead rope, the bell boots she was wearing and about 10 of her shoes. What have some of you done to remember you horses? I'd love to see pictures if you have some. |

| When I lose a good one, I retire their headstall, bit, and reins to a hook in the house. It's never used again. |

Thats what my daughter did. She retired her custom halter, headstall and breast collar and hung it on the wall over the 2 saddles the horse had won in her short 1 year to compete. |

Common Sense and then some
Location: So. California | My daughter had a horse hair bracelet with 2 bells attached made for me to remember our mare. Her name was Belle, and we called her Belle Belle often, therefore the 2 bells on the bracelet. I've worn it a few times, but am afraid it will get damaged. It will be going in a shadow box soon with her picture. |

| I took a picture and had a woven throw made from the picture. It is stunning. You can have this done at Walmart for about $100. |

| I know this is really weird but I quilted a blanket and had mines, picture put on it...then took some of her tail hair and cross stitched around the picture....it hangs on my wall in my study.....Also took some of her hair and sent it to pony lock and had it put in a cool little locket necklace...though about taking the rest and having someone inlay it in a wide band leather bracelet. |

Location: Somewhere around here | I had a gentleman create a heart necklace with the horses name in the middle of the heart. It was just wire and I was able to watch him do it all by hand at the National Western Stock Show. It lasted pretty well when I wore it every single day for a few years but I decided to retire it before it broke. |

Location: Texas | I have Pistol's last halter he wore in my room hanging on a trophy saddle rack. But other than that.. I still haven't done anything with his mane or tail. It's in a box in my closet. I didn't retire any of his bits but I do always remember which one was his. |

Location: NE TX | First off so sorry for your loss. I have had two that I've had to put down and I had their tales braided by Trish in CA her company name is Coastal Cowgirl and she is amazing. I have referred friends to her who have also lost horses and they love them too. She makes necklaces and bracelets. I'll post the link to her Facebook page below. The two I had put down were not wearing shoes when I put them down, but I did have someone make me a cross with some shoes I had. I have one hanging in my office and one hanging in my bedroom. I also have one painted with charms like from a charm bracelet through the nail holes. I would include pics of these but for some reason I can't attach pics.

Location: North Dakota | That horse hair vase is super cool!!
When I had to put my Beau down, I kept a piece of his tail (braided) and his halter. I hung everything up on the wall of my home office, with some fav pictures of him, and a painting I had received as a gift (well before he was put down).

My vase is very large, probably 12 inches tall. It is a large centerpiece for my table. |
