Location: snowbelt, WA | Ok so every other time I come on this post I can't see what I orginally posted, so here it is again. Friends horse is hurting but they don't know why. I know a lot of times it is something I haven't delt with and I read about it on here. Would love to be able to help them find out what is going on.
Possible colic, but no impaction or twisted gut. Then thought tying up. Not sure what is going on with multiple tests. Is at a vets a couple days now. |

Location: Where I am happiest | Have they done any ultrasounds to see if possable enteroths? Does the horse have a temp?If the horse has been at the vets for a couple days and the vet doesnt know whats wrong with the horse I think I would be taking my horse or having the vet consult with either the universaty or Bend Equine who is a surgical and referal center in Bend Oregon. I assume the horse is in Wa? |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | My boy was acting like he coliced around this time last year...Vet couldn't find anything wrong with him. Turned out being his feed... Once I switched his feed (molasses was an ingredient I didn't know it had) He was perfectly happy and started gaining weight again.
What feed program does your friend have him on?

My horse was diagnosed with hypocalcemia a couple of years ago. I thought he was colicing at first b/c he was standing depressed in the pasture. Then noticed he could barely walk, was very stiff and sore. He was hospitalized for a few days and made a full recovery. Here's some info: http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/metabolic_disorders/disorders_of_calcium_metabolism/hypocalcemic_tetany_in_horses.html
Really crazy experience. He was in good shape, but about 18 years old and we had made several long hauls to barrel races, so I think his electrolytes were just messed up from not drinking as much on the road... |
