I have had my mare since she was 2, she is basically just a pet, was rode often till she was about 6 years old.  Anyways, she has an old back injury which makes her now only ridable for young kids.  She was trimmed about 2-3 weeks ago and seemed like her normal self after that.  Over the last week or so she has started to lay down more and can tell that she is hurting a good deal, well tonight I went out to check on her before I go to bed and she was seating in her stall, our other horse is not.  her respiratory rate was normal as well, and she was munching on her hay.  Today she is not wanting to put much weight on one of her back legs, no swelling no obvious sign of abscess or thrush, our ground her is sand and so it is pretty soft.  Going to see if I can get a vet appointment for her asap.  I hate to see her in pain, but I am not ready to say good bye to my girl either, my boys love her.  You can tell by her physical appearance where she hurts in her back.

I am so sorry about your girl----I have a 15 year old mare that has suspensory issues going on, and I watch her like a hawk for pain. (I also have a 36 year old gelding with all the aches and pains that go with that advanced age and would never want him to hurt if he doesn't have to.) I absolutely would feel the same as you in your position. Please let us know what your vet says and keep us updated. Many many prayers for you and her.
