| So I"m looking at a couple different mares right now, both high loping a nice pattern, one is by DTF and the other by FG. I rode and like them both, I can only afford 1 however ha!
They are 5 and 6 yr olds. Of course the FG daughter is drop dead gorgeous but she's also more cattier or sensitive I guess to say. Both are sound and sane. Reputable trainers.
Just looking for some input as I want this horse to be with me forever, and hopefully rodeo on eventually if we ever get that good. I want a mare so yes I'm spending a bit more than a gelding, and I'm not so sure what the price tags are for these that have only been entered a few months, not seasoned. Any advice would be great thank you |

Location: Texas | I would pick which one fits you best, which one you think YOU can ride best.. Or, what you can do is, write their names on paper, fold them up, pull out of a jar, and pick one- if you pick one and your gut reaction is "aw man i was hoping for the other" then you know which one you want

Something worth considering, is that the DTF mares can be be a handful. I had great luck with mine, but I'm a bit of a run sucker and tend to make a horse pretty quiet. I know several DTF mares and all of them are hot and a bit goofy. The DTF horses aren't really my style either... For me, they're harder to ride than the FG get. That being said... I have had great success with both but tend to like the FG horses better.
Good luck!

IMO... A lot of the DTF horses are VERY turney. They run hard and they set hard and can really get you forward because you have to ride them all the way in there and to me it feels more like they slingshot around the barrel. I'm a quiet rider so I hit a lot of barrels on a horse like that. The FG horses I've ridden are a bit easier because they tend to keep their forward motion better and have a bit more bend through the rib-cage. Keep in mind that I'm generalizing here, but I have found it to be true on most of the horses I have come across.

| LOVE the responses..makes a person think which I need to do...and real soon :) The FG mare seems to be laid back, very light, but she hasn't been hauled to see the sights as much as the DTF mare. She's also a year younger..I'm leaning more towards the FG because I do know alot of the DTF have crazy quirks but I guess the good horses do! Both are priced over 25K so I have to make the best decision for ME. |

| I would go with the one that fits your best, next I would go with the one who is built to last. I like good feet and bone, soundness issues are not fun.

Very true statement here on feet and bone. The FG mare has "smaller" feet I think but she's not heavily boned either, I would say medium. Is it true that smaller footed horses will tend to not stay sound or hold up in the long haul?
The DTF has decent sized feet, but then I hear they don't stay sound on their front ends either..I wish I didn't like either one of them it would make this decision easier |

Location: Where I am happiest | Both would be an asset pedigree wise and make a top future broodmare. So once you ride them both, it will be evident to you which one you enjoy riding the most. |

Just food for thought when comparing feet and bone size be sure to take the size of the horse into account. A 00 foot on a 16 hand horse if deferent than a 00 on a 15 hand horse in my opinion. If you are unsure vet them both and get your vets opinion. |

| ive seen a couple of FGs that just dont have the run, but if this one does i might would go with it. Alot of DTFs just seem quirky and more difficult to manage, but each horse is different! go with your gut or whichever one makes you more comfortable. what an awesome position to be in im jealous lol |

Location: California | Both are going to be stellar horses. But my thought is this-- I personally can get anxious and lose some confidence if I'm dealing with a horse that is extremely easy to get wound up and that is one of my downfalls as a rider. So think of it like this, what are your pro's and con's as a rider? Which horse would you compliment the most? Have an honest, open evaluation of yourself. I do not have expereince with either and therefore I am not syaing one is better than the other. But when you are trying them, which horse do you feel the most comfortable and safe with? That will go a long ways in a partnership. Just an idea. |

| Of the ones I have seen and messed with, I would take a FG over a DTF. DTF's just seem very hot headed and easily flustered, even as broodmares. I don't like having to use a chain on a mare just to move her from one stall to another without getting ran over, if you know what I mean. However, ever horse is different. I knew a FG daughter who was missing some points in the brain department, and I knew a DTF gelding who was cool as a cucumber, so it really depends on the individual personality. You can't really go wrong with either one. |
