Location: /ARKANSAS | What do you do when a divorce, he filed may 2014 20 months ago, left with 27 thousand and moved to deer camp, divorce granted may 2015, property settlement finished 0ct 2015, For 20 months I have paid all the bills we had when he left. He has not helped at all, this is my house I built it in 1983 Married him in 2003, he had nothing material, or of worth at all, I know I am stupid, but he promised to love me and spend his life making me happy. What he really wanted was someone that would work and let him do what he pleased. During the marriage, he would just quit work for 3-6 months. Put me in debt and just left me holding all the bills. Now I know he does not have the money the judge told him to pay me for the premarital IRA I cashed in to by land, or the paid up dividends on my life insurance to continue to pay the payments and keep them up dated. He will sit and not make a move, he won't let me sell the land and he wants half the land and half the house!! And he owes me 30,000 dollars that I know I will never see. My lawyer sent his lawyer a letter this past week offering to trade the cash amount he owes me. if he quit claim the land and house to me. What can I do to make sure that they act in a timely manner? I am broke and do not want to file Bankruptcy, I can't file bankruptcy, just couldnot deal with it. Help me guys!

I would think your lawyer would know the answer to this but maybe not never been in the spot that your in, good luck to you. But if the house and land were your's befor you got married I would think that house and land would all still be your's.

Location: LaBelle, Florida | Depends on the laws of the state. Florida state law, once you marry, home/property automatically is 50/50. I was told this, going through my first divorce when buying a place. I was told to make sure the divorce was final before closing on anything as he would become automatically entitiled to 50% if we were legally still married.

Let your lawyer handle it in the way that he/she is doing now. Post-judgment enforcement actions are handled differently than the divorce. If your lawyer has suggested a letter is the initial step, please trust them. They know the law, the judge and how things are typically handled in your state. Many judges want to see the parties trying to work this out before enforcement motions are filed. That is what's going on now and the time needs to pass for it to set you up in the best light (i.e., be on the good side of things with the judge) if more action is needed.

Location: /ARKANSAS | I feel like I have been extremely patient, which is not in my character, it has been 20 months and things are dragging on purpose because he wants to bankrupt me. He started drinking and got really mean, dang if people think a woman scorned is mean, they know nothing about a man being scorned. He filed for the divorce, mine was drawn up first but I carried it around in my pocket for 2 weeks. I just can't live with a man who is mean and greedy. I thought we would be partners he was stashing money away and giving me 500 a week for bills when he worked. The bank account had only his name and his sons name on it. I had skin cancer on my face in Dec 2013 and no insurance, had 4 surgeries, when I asked him for help he said no. And I said OK we have nothing else to talk about, and I not spoken to him since that time. He is a fraud, the marriage was a fraud and I tried until I could not tolerate him any longer.
