I increased my gelding's grain and that gave him more "fire" in his runs. |

| Whatever speed you work the barrels, leave the barrel one speed up. Walk in and trot out, trot in, lope out, etc. Gets them to anticipating the fire out of a turn. |

Location: Alberta | Connie Combs does some really good getting them firing exercises. Do you know anyone who has gone to one of her clinics? I've rode a little with a lady who does and she showed me a couple exercises and they are intense, a putting the pressure on a horse with the speed.

I agree! Connie Combs has some pretty intense drills. The clinic I attended, she had her drill Sargent clinician with her, can't remember her name for the life of me. And that lady would scream bloody murder if you weren't going fast enough and make you do it again. They really push a rider to get after their horse. |

I'm scared but intrigued to go to a clinic. After doing the couple drills I did so discovered its ME who doesn't have the "fire" to go faster NOT my horse |

| Anyone that has been to the Connie Combs clinic.... can you described the drill she does on firing. I googled it and all I can find is her drill pattern for collection and muscle memory, I am intrigued and would love to know! |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | Roll backs are really good for quickening feet, if I feel they are dogging I'll do a couple roll backs in random places on the rail and I usually have a new horse on the pattern next time I make a run :) |

| Why don't you go riding out in the pasture and teach your horse the cue to run hellbentforleather by spanking her butt while smooching to her while at a stop, walking, trotting, loping .... to break into a full run in a straight line ... doing this in a big pasture does not make her crazy or arena sour and big area is easy to work in .. no fences ...
In a short time she will crank it up with only a smooch ... or scream her name ... she may take off if someone else smoochs their horse as a joke ... ... so figure out a special grunt for just you and your horse
Leave your turning the barrel out of asking for speed cue .... you are wanting to go faster in a straight line to the next barrel or running home ...
