If I was running more competive times, I would absolutely do rodeos. Nothing compares to the atmosphere and rush you get running during performance!  But since I am still floundering in the 4D, I will stick with those.

I feel the same way. If I was riding like I did 20 years ago, no question I would rather rodeo!

Right now my daughter is doing HS rodeos and we love it! As a parent, I think it goes so much faster and I don't spend my entire day sitting around watching 100 other horses run the pattern. There is variety and a lot of action. Her horse also seem to thrive in the rodeo atmosphere. What I appreciate most about HS rodeo is how it honors American traditions and not afraid to stay strong for the American anthem and prayer. With that being said it is expensive and you most certainly don't always get the best ground conditions, but once that rodeo blood is flowing through you it is hard to ignore.

I personally get bored just doing barrel races and just doing rodeos... I have to mix it up. My gelding now doesnt handle the rodeo atmosphere well. If he did, I would probably do a rodeo or two, a handful of my favorite barrel races and then some of the horse shows. I went through different periods where I only ran rodeo (college) or only ran barrel races and I got bored doing just one. I like to mix it up.

I love both, but I only enter Rodeos if my horse is competitive enough to place. Right now I am on young horses who are moving up thru the Ds and so we stick to jackpots :)

Really it all depends on what drives you, do you like the pace and ease of a jackpot or would you rather feel the roar of 60,000 plus at Houston. The atmosphere of Rodeo is an adreneline rush hands down. I have done both for many years now and just loved the thrill of hearing a huge crowd cheering me on.

Currently jackpots with rodeo aspirations. Hoping to breakaway rope next year if the up and coming barrel horse isn't ready (or even if he is).

Helps to have a SO who also rodeos, late nights and early mornings chasing white lines with the one you love. I've ended a lot of relationships over lack of support for my passion, so it's a pretty special chance to go hard and have that supporting factor next to me.

He supports me via jackpots as well but unless they are in town and his niece is running too he doesn't generally come - usually at a rodeo, roping jackpot, or working on the farm. I cherish the events we do together.

I do love the rodeo road, but it gets long - especially when you aren't winning and on the road alone.

If I was good enough, I'd shoot for the NFR. But I'm a 2-3D barrel racer. So I go to barrel racing shows.

I just love to go...doesn't matter where. Sometimes I hate the ground at rodeos...but I have horse right now that prefers rodeos over jackpots...and we have an agreement that I'll take him to a rodeo for every three or four jackpots just to keep him firing for me. There is something about rodeos that gets my blood going a little...I think its more symbolic to me than anything...as a trainer...rodeos signify a colt coming into a finished/seasoned horse....and hard work payed off.

I'll take a jackpot any day. Why would I buy a $300 permit, pay higher entry fees, drive a million miles, to make one run on who knows what kind of pattern set up on probably crap ground? I'd much rather haul everybody, season my colts, on better ground, and make it home in time for dinner.

I'm always kind of amazed at the girls and horses that hit the rodeo trail and thrive on it. I think ya'll crazy.

At this point in time, jackpots and working my way through the D's is the goal...I will be thrilled to develop my little mare into a consistent 1D horse.
I have done the rodeo life, qualifying for the Canadian Finals Rodeo...doing very well at the Calgary Stampede several times on horses I've trained, is a thrill that no jackpot can compete with....but these days, I like being home...alot!

I liked to rodeo myself in my younger days, they were just open rodeos but it was a rodeo, but now that I'm older I like the slow pace of a good jackpot, lol

The Child Gone Wild and my horses try harder at rodeos. I think they like the environment better.  They're all laid back at the barrel race and clearly think. . BORING. . even though it can be a social hour for the Child Gone Wild.

I like both.

There's that "thrill" that comes with running to music and in front of a crowd, at a rodeo.

And the jackpots are nice if you have a horse that isn't fast enough (or experienced enough) to place at a rodeo.

So far, I've only done amateur rodeos as I haven't had a horse good enough to justify buying my pro permit. Someday I'd like to, to enter the rodeos near me and *maybe* make my circuit finals. But I've got to have the horse before I can do that.

I like variety. I also still do local horse shows and playdays to give my barrel horses something different to do. Keeps me entertained and keeps things interesting for them.

Bless all of you that have the endurance to rodeo. But me, I'm just a working, middle-aged lady that is thankful for divisional jackpots. Up here in North Texas, if I can clock one second back from these amazing barrel racers I have met my goal!

I'd rather drive 500 miles to make one run at a rodeo than 25 miles to sit all day at a jackpot. And I have a far better chance of placing at rodeos around here, even against the same horses I would run against at the horse shows.

I will go to an occasional show if I have young horses or if there is just nothing else to go to.

Futurities are at the bottom of my list. Get there 2,3 or 4 days before you ever get to make a run......and of course I never had anything competitive enough to make it fun.
