| So... My dad nonchalantly today told me I'd save a fortune if I'd learn to trim my own horses feet. Lol I tried to explain that there's a science too it and its just easier to pay someone who does it well as a career. Instead of buying the equipment, putting in hours and hours of learning on my own horse and potentially causing him lameness issues. Especially since, I only own one horse. It was a hopeless conversation ha ha
So lets hear it, what are some of the funny things your non-horse family says? |

| I trim all 6 of mine and have for 5 years, no problems at all. I learned from my dad. |

Location: Montana | I'm thinking about learning to trim my own horse...but mostly because she is going to be a broodie this next year and I won't need shoes. Plus, she's a pretty easy one. It can be done...my thing is I think someone stronger than me may have better luck at it, LOL.

I simply don't have the time to learn. Between full time in mscc, full time job, church, and helping my friend plan her wedding I'm running around like a crazy person.

| How much can it really be costing to trim one horse 6-8 (?) times a year? I'm with you, pay someone experienced to do it! |

| I have six barefoot horses, one that must be trimmed every four weeks. The other five every six weeks. When I did have the farrier trim its was roughly $50 a horse. So for the five that's about $400 a year, and for my other that would be $650 a year. That does not include shoes. Much cheaper to do it my self and they are never handled rough. Back in my dad's day he would put shoes on them, but I prefer bare feet. |
