Several times in the last week, I have been having this sharp pain in my shin. Not during exercise but sitting in the recliner with my feet propped up and even lying in bed.  Comes on quickly and hurts badly enough that I kind of yell out from the pain but then is quickly gone.  I haven't injured myself doing anything recently.  Any ideas?  I will go to the doctor after Christmas if it continues but have too many things to do now.

I don't know what that is, but you might try some magnesium supplements to see if that relieves it.

I am willing to try just about anything.  This afternoon was the first time it has hit while I was standing.

Magnesium is a good option or I use a Tommie Copper leg sleeve because I get cramps so bad after I ride. It's weird. I stretch before and after and can still get cramps/aches in my legs.

If its the front of your leg, right next to the bone - these are shin splints. Really common among athletes and those that work out. These are normal, and yes can come on quick and be quite sharp and then alleviate quickly. Some also will just be a relatively strong pain, they can be localized or diffused through the entire front of your leg/shin.

Pain meds, warm towels, massage all help. You can also look up stretches to help elongate your muscles to help relieve the pain associated. I have been an athlete and runner my entire life ... I have noticed that walking on concrete brings these out in me, but I can run a marathon and be fine after. You might check the shoes you've been wearing the most often, they can also make an impact on these types of situations.

Good Luck - hope you get it figured out!
