I need a stud that will conformationally compliment my mare. Her papers are just ranch horse papers, nothing special but I'm looking to breed to keep, not for resale but I want a foal by nice stud and "be all it can be" lol. My mare naturally has a weaker topline and IMO has a TB shaped hind end bone structure wise. Meaning when she's not on full feed and being rode quite a bit she has a smaller HQ but when rode and fed right fills out nicely. I want a more naturally full HQ if I can. Also, disposition is huge to me. I love my mares drive and want to please and don't want to ruin that in a goal by breeding to a turd-minded stud.
Out ut of the stallions listed above, which do you think fits the best? I have seen their performance and produce records. What I do not know is A) do the stallions look like their adds and B) how are their personalities and their foals personalities?

 Saint Stacey

| I've seen Guys PieceOfThePie and PC Frosty Bid in the flesh. Both are very correct.
Your list has all different body types on it though. Also, you can't just breed to a stud and expect to get the parts you desire. It doesn't work like that. You have to expect to get a twin to the mare and hope that the stallion comes through though. |

| I understand what you are saying. I like the way Frosty is built but I don't think he would compliment my mare like some of the others but I know him professionally in the barrel and breeding/vet world and I LOVE him. |

Hungarian Midget Woman
Location: Midwest | Can I ask why you wish to breed this particular mare? I only ask because you have a long list of things you wish to improve, including Pedigree and body style/conformation. Breeding is tricky... You may not get an improved version of your mare, and then you will have a horse with a weaker pedigree on the bottom- which would mean you'd have a horse to sell that may fetch less than you have into the foal for stud fee, vet care, and feed in the mare. Broodmares in my area are not selling very well, and you can get some good deals on well built mares with nice pedigrees, that are proven in the track or the arena. That could be a better option if you are wanting to get into breeding.
Just food for thought. I do think you have a couple nice picks, but in this market I would be wary of breeding a mare as you described her unless she is proven. This is all jmho as I am not breeder nor a professional, but if I were to breed I would always be thinking of resale value. Sometimes life happens and you are forced to sell, unfortunately.
Side note, I think we need more info here on the mare. Pedigree, what she has done, pictures would be helpful. |

She sounds like something I would not be breeding if shes got these faults, but since you say you are keeping the baby you need a stud that will put good bone and a nice hip on a baby. And you need to feed the mare right, you are saying when the mare is feed right she looks better. But with a weaker top line and a TB shaped butt I think if I was spending money for a nice stud I would fine me a better mare to breed. |

My 3 year old is out of a half quarter and half Arabian mare, sired by a quarter horse stallion. My filly has her mother's frame and more of the quarter horse muscles. It will be hard for you to improve the mares frame, what if you get a foal just like her?

| pics added. The one in the aisle of the barn is the "out of shape" I was talking about. Her papers are listed up there too.
ETA- I forgot to answer a few things I saw. I want a foal to keep specifically from this mare. If the foal came out just like her I would be stoked because I think she's awesome but she's mine so that's ok lol. I just want to try to use the best stallion I can. If others don't feel she is breed worthy, that's fine because I'm the one breeding her lol. I am very realistic about what and who she is. As for resale on the foal, there are a few people in TX, LA and GA that saw the mare grow up, know who she is and have seen her work and keep up with her who would love to have one. Not that I would breed just to sell to these people but her foal would have a few different options for an awesome home if I ever got in a bind. As for her performance record, she is a 2D mare at local stuff and 3D at big stuff. We have stepped into the 1 a few times but not enough to call her a 1D horse.

Β why is her belly wrapped
that was June 2013. We assumed she was kicked in the belly but somehow got a little hernia so the vet put her in a belly band for 2 weeks and it healed on its own (thank goodness). |

Location: Texas | I love Ima Firefighter and Firewater Frost! I'm not really into breeding at all though, so my opinion may not be worth much here lol
I did however college rodeo with the girl who owns Firewater Frost and they have had some nice babies and amazing mares bred to him. Really nice family and he is a beautiful horse, very good disposition and attitude. Good all around horse, but they have a lot of babies that have been 1D barrels/19-20 pole horses so they definitley get the speed. |

Sorry, I thought I put it up there. There's not much to speak of on her papers. Old booed really. Beduino a few generations back, go man go and Peponita. I have heard she has the papers to be a turd but really has been the easiest horse I have ever dealt with from the get go. |

Β Just curious why she is in an English saddle?
at that particular time it was for efficiency (I was working insane hours), and working on my balance and her topline. I like to feel when they round out and lift and I can get a much better feel in an English saddle. |
