His back really isn't flat, he's got a decent wither. Your saddle could be rocking because the gullet is too big and a combination of the tree having too much rock. I don't own any martins and don't really believe in their fitting philosophy. I would probably try something with a standard gullet. He doesn't look super wide in the pics, but it's hard to tell unless your in person. Personally, I am a double j fan. My suggestion would be to just find something you think you'd like and try it.
It also looks like your saddle may be too far forward as well. I'd slide it back a couple inches.
He does have a good wither - I wasn't sure why it was rocking (so just assumed maybe his back was more flat than I thought), this didn't happen nearly as bad on my other horse that I originally bought the Martin for. I had a DJ Lynn Mckenzie awhile back and loved it so maybe I'll go looking for one of those again. It's so hard trying to find saddles to try out! Was also looking at a Tami Semas - anyone have experience with those? |

Your I skirt riggin is set as far back as possible, this is to make the saddle sit ON the shoulders.
Martin designed their rigging so the people who don't buy into their philosophy can still buy their saddles and put it on the shoulder.
To have the saddle move back move the riggin to the front, this is what Brian and Tracy told me.
I ride all my horses who wear crown c saddles with the riggin all the way to the front, have never had a saddle slide forward |

Location: Where I am happiest | We have 3 flater backed horses and my Caldwell Pro Max is the only saddle that trully fits them. We sold the coats because it didnt fit and we have 2 martins with different gullet sizes but neither of them really fits these 3 at all. |

I get what you're saying and I'll try it, but wouldn't moving the rigging to the front and tightening down make it pop up in the back, especially if it's already rocking and popping up? |

On my Crown C I have the rigging set in the middle.
I'm thinking your saddle may be to wide. Have you tryed a standard tree on your hoprse? |

Nope I haven't yet - don't have access to one. I'll look around though - have more pictures from today to post just need to resize them. :) |

Ya his actually back doesn't have too much contour but he has a wither, so I wouldn't consider him flat. I really like the trees in double j's. I wanted a Tami, but ended up with another pozzi but in a wide tree and I'm glad I did. I'm not sure if the Tami wide would have been wide enough as its only a 6 3/4" gullet. I've read nothing but good things about them though. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Heres my boy the day I brought him home, his mommy is Thoroughbred and his daddy is Leaving Memories, and my standard tree Crown C fits him really good with a 3/4 pad.. Hes got a nice set of withers but kinda narrow threw the shoulders but has a nice flat back now, he has put on weight since this picture. But I really like how the C sits on him.
edit to add: I keep resizing my picture and it just keeps getting smaller, befor long you wont beable to see it,, but its saying to big, lol
