Yes I lost 30 pounds by running.

I ran 3x a week. Monday/Wednesday/Friday
I rode horses- Tuesday & Thursday

I started jogging 0.75 miles and worked my way up to 3 miles over a LONG stretch of time.

But I was in the best shape and was eating whatever I wanted.

Losing weight and being fit are 2 different things. As you run, you'll build muscle which weighs more than flab, so just 'weight' you may not lose.

When I was in my late 40's I ran for fitness, health, and strength. I think my riding improved because I was stronger. I ran 5K's just about every weekend, and ran 2 half marathons over the period of a few years. I ran in 5K's in the mornings and went to barrel races in the afternoon. I felt better than I'd ever felt, and frankly I think I rode better. I was more lean, but didn't necessarily weigh less.

Problem is I weighed a lot, I was 'heavy where I stood' so to speak. The more I ran the more muscle I gained. Good in a way, but problem is it starts to wear on your knees and other joints. If you're a natural built runner you're good, if you're a lean but heavy person, it takes it's toll. However, I would never trade what I have now in my early 60's for what I experienced 15 years or so ago.

If I had it to do over, I would do the same. Just remember if you're only focused on what the scale says, that doesn't say it all. How do you feel? How do those jeans fit? You can weigh the same, but if you drop 1 or 2 jean sizes, well.....

Good luck.
