We are meeting a shipper near Knoxsville or Crossville, TN Thursday to pick up a young-barely handled horse. We need a safe place to switch out around 6:30pm or 7pm. A fairgrounds or a barn. Thank you!

It's in Morristown, but the White Pine Expo Center is not too far from Knoxville. I think it is part of Walters State. Another option in Harriman is the Roane State Expo Center.

You did not say age or size of the young horse to determine
if he could be manhandled from one trailer to another.
I have done this several times ... I took two 10 ft panels with
me tied inside my trailer in case they are needed.
Find a level parking lot without a lot of activity. Back both
trailers up to their backdoors... with room to open them
both to act as a fence.
If both are single doors and match fairly well in length ..
you will not need the panels.
If one is a 2 door rear gate ... you will need the
panels if there is any open space .
Open the doors and tie them to the other trailer with your
trailer gate easy to untie so it can be closed in a hurry if need be.
Unload the horse and try to keep him moving to hop into the other
trailer .. slam the door ... lol ..

She is halter broke. But the shipper said she has been a nervous wreck. Was hoping to find a safe place incase she gets loose!
Thank you for the advice!

Look for a sale barn or stockyards. It seems nearly all decent sized towns have them. They usually have cattle pens and allyways. He can backup and unload her and you can back up and run her back in.

It's been a few years since I've picked up a young one. But the shipper I had clipped two leads to the side of the halter
(kind of like a cross tie
) and we both held one rope and walked on either side of the filly from one trailer to the next. It was extra protection in case she bolted. That way two sets of hands were on her. Once she was in my trailer I tied one lead and unclipped the other. The shipper had the gate closed on my trailer until I got my cut gate closed.
I hadn't ever seen or heard of a shipper doing it that way, but it worked for us and since we couldn't make the exchange anywhere else in my tiny town, we did the exchange at a walmart parking lot. Talk about stressful. I was glad there were two ropes on my filly. she sure was jumpy from all the traffic.
LOL I learned where NOT to exchange a horse at that day
