I need a major pep talk! I am about to apply for nursing school in the next month, if I am accepted I will begin during fall of 2016. I decided to go back to school last summer and I am finishing up my final prerequisites as we speak. I have kept my GPA at a 3.8 and have been studying for my TEAS exam, which is required to apply for the nursing program at the university I am attending. BUT I AM BURNT OUT!!!!!!
I am a stay at home mom to a 2 year old and 1 year old, all while being a full time student. I take most of my classes online, and the ones I can't I go to the university at night from 6-9pm for the evening classes. Barrel racing has been nonexistent because I just feel like it is not a priority at this point in my life. I have maybe rode 10 times in the past 6 months, which is hard to imagine since my husband trains horses for a living.
I sold both my horses last year, and they were both $20,000+ horses. It hurt BAD, but I felt like it was what was best for my family. God bless my sweet husband for taking care of EVERYTHING outside of the house, he gets no help with our horses or client horses. We just purchased the piece of property we live on a couple of years ago and it was completely BARE. My husband has built a barn, pipe arena, and 60 ft. cedar round pen in this past year all alone and not complained once because he knows I have my hands full.
Someone please tell me this nursing degree will be SO worth it, and if it isn't please tell me to RUN because I am afraid it is only going to get worse before it gets better. I know this is a sob story, but I feel like everyone (husband and children included) is feeling the stress of my schooling and I am just praying that once it is over I will be so happy that I stuck with it!
Thank you for letting me vent!!!

I don't have any advice on the nursing school part of it and to know if its worth it. (Im an Animal Science major)Just wanted you to know you have support here in what ever you do decide.
My advice to you is if its something you want, go for it, and be ALL in, I know a couple girls who have been back to school for nursing more than a couple times because they half ass it and cant pass their test when their done, and instead trying again, they give up and decide in 3-5 years theyre going try again, well you actually have to go back to school then, to me that's a waste, and a lot of stress on top of it especially if you have a family while doing it.

Don't worry about the horses, you will most likely make it back to them someday, I feel like Im giving up riding now too (pregnant with my first) and when Ill be able to get back to them IDK, I have 3 young ones that need started, and feeling pressure to get rid of a couple now....and I don't plan on waiting to have the rest of my kids 5 years down the road, I want them to close in age if at all possible, so I guess know that you're not alone. And your family is more important than anything else, but I think they'll be a time in your life when you can get back to the things you love, just focus on one thing at a time. It will work itself out.

I did nursing school with two small children- mine were in kindergarten and 2nd grade though. You have made it this far- I think you will make it. Jobs are easy to find with a nursing degree. Plus that extra knowledge on the farm and with kids in invaluable. Pm any questions !! If you are this far you should be fine

School is hard and burn out comes no matter what extra responsibilities you may have on your plate. Ultimately two years will go by fast. Where do you want to be in two years?

Most people have to put horses aside for school or a young family for a short period, but I haven't ever heard anyone say it wasn't worth the sacrifice.

I did it many years ago. Sold both of my good horses. Had a small child too. Just approach school like a job. You will hav some buddies in school that u can study with and travel with. I have never been without a job. At times I have had two. It will be worth it. Just hang in there.

I gotta hand it to you and you other people going through nursing school with other responsibilities (kids or whatnot). My good friend is in her 3rd year of nursing school and she has a part time job at a gas station and she says she's busy all the time and doesn't have much free time. I don't think I could handle nursing school but I do know that it is one of the best jobs out there.

If you are burnt out ask yourself why do you want to be a nurse?

Nursing isn't always easy for the family life especially with kids, it all depends on where you work and your employer.

You may have to sacrifice weekends, evenings, and nights, depending on the rotation you get.

You may have to miss birthday parties, Christmases, special occasions, as your employer may mandate you to work.

Depending on where you work, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethics are hard to keep, especially working in small town where you know everyone, you can't debrief to your spouse, sister, family member, as it could cost you your liscense.

Nursing can be challenging but can also be rewarding

DONT STOP NOW!!! The fun part is just beginnning! ?Trust me, once you actually start the medical stuff you wont be bored anymore!
Think of it this way, the extra money you will be making will be worth it! You will be able to do alot more. I have not even sat on a horse for 2 years du to school and having a baby. They will always be there though!
I have put off finishing nursing school for 3 years and i totally regret it b/c now I am at a place where I cant at the moment, when three years ago i COULD OF! Keep chugging on!!!!!

Nursing school was the hardest thing I have ever done. I was a royal witch while going to school because I was so stressed. I worked 30+ hours/week and still was able to ride at least one horse and haul. You need a strong support system to get through. I've been a nurse about a year and a half. I busted my butt once for a patient because doctors weren't understanding what the family wanted. Emotions were high and the patient's family snapped at me. I was finally able to achieve the outcome we all wanted for the patient and the patient was able to rest comfortably. The family cried and thanked me for everything I had done all weekend. That right there was worth all the blood, sweat and tears.
