| Trailer shopping sucks!
I have one of the boyfriends trailers to use until I find one, there is no rush.
I have a comfortable budget of $30k. If I wait it does increase but I still struggle mentally to go over $40k on a trailer.
I have a 2008 2500 Duramax. I'm looking at 3 horse trailers with 9' shortwalls, generally around 22' on the floor. Something with a couch a small kitchen area and a full bathroom. I'm just toting me around and occasionally a friend, but she's not sure she'll be going to the overnight stuff yet.
I found a 2005 C&C 3 horse that really does check the list off. It is 8' wide, with no mangers (I would love the extra storage but I'm not a fan of them in the horse area), and a nice clean but basic LQ. It's near the top of my current price range.
Boyfriend and his folks think I should keep looking, not because they think it's a bad trailer but because they think something better might be out there.
I'm nervous of this one being sold, but they are kind of making me doubt whether or not I should go buy it (assuming it checks out of course).
I've been looking though and I'm just not seeing anything that trips my trigger, even when I up the price to the $40k if I wait for a while. I'm having trouble talking myself into some of the sub $40k brand new trailers - I know people who have them no problems but I'm also freaked out by the stories of bad ones and seeing all the 2-3 yr old ones out there for sale.
Just seeing what the BHW has to say. |

| I haven't looked at it yet, it's 3 hrs away. I plan to, just a matter of when right now, I'm in the middle of a bathroom renovation at my house and the boyfriend is starting to calve at the farm.
Guess I didn't think my trailer would sell in 3 days!! |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | C&C is one of the best made trailers out there. 8' wide is a must. You might want to jump on that pretty quick. When I was shopping last time, it seemed like I spent months chasing my tail because the ones in my price range that suited my needs kept selling before I could look at them. People were buying sight unseen because this was such a big problem. |

Location: Buffalo, TX | I'm a trailer dealer. If you are looking at the stock combo, I would think about resale...bad resale for paying that with no drop down Windows. I would look at the 2001 4 Star for $27,500 in MN. I purchased a used 4 Star that came from this dealer several years ago and they were honest. |

I think you should listen to the boyfriend. Don't get in a hurry, find exactly what you want. Just becuase you have it to spend doesn't mean you should. |

Would I buy an 11 yr old c&c, elite, platinum etc with LQ. No.
I would either up my budget if need be or "settle" ( if you want to call it that) on a mid level quality trailer with a higher quality/newer LQ as tha RV industry has come a long way in 10 yrs. |

My 10 year old LQ trailer is nicer and higher quality than my parents' 2 year old RV. The finishes aren't trendy, it has laminate counter tops and oak cabinets, but I don't care. |

| Thanks all
I'm a bigger fan of stock combo than drop downs. I don't know why, maybe because it was the summer of window issues for friends but the stock combo was one of the things that made it most attractive to me.
Upping the budget doesn't get me very far IMO with what I'm seeing, I really am undecided about entry level trailers and their longevity (exiss, bison, keifer etc) because I see sooooooooooooooo **** many of them for sale.
We are going to talk to the Lakota dealer in town this weekend, of all the entry level stuff it's what I like the best. I have trouble upping the budget that far...but we'll see what they can do for me

We prefer the stock combo to Windows.
I saw the 4 star. Don't hate the LQ but kind of has the oven - I have zero need for it and it just looks stupid to me. Plus the dinette does not appear to fold down which is a must if it has a dinette. |

I'd hate to say how old my steel living quarters trailer is if you think that's old! It doesn't have a bathroom area but it's pretty good about everything else; microwave, full sized bed space, sink, a place to hang your clothes, lol even an oven but maybe that really shows how old it is. |

Location: Warsaw,NY | I am also LQ shopping, wanted to spend the sme as u. I am finding the financinf for a used isnt that great and u can have a new with cheaper payments. I am going to look at Lakota today at dixie horse and mule. I have also been told to steer away from Bison, I had a keifer built before and I would say stay away from them. |

| Thanks, I'm going to swing by and talk to our Lakota dealer today or tomorrow actually. I have reservations about buying a trailer I have to finance for 10 or 15 years to afford the payment on though, a really hard time swallowing that actually.
What does everything think on mangers? the storage under would be nice but I'm more concerned with my horses comfort. My main mount is 14.1, my niece runs a 13.2 hand quarter pony and typically most of ours fall in the 14-15.1 hand range. I have some reservations about them being able to stand comfortably, be able to get their heads down to clear their throats, will they be banging their heads up on the mangers being at an awkward level? just can't decide on that and I'm of the opinion if your undecided it's better not to have them, but I'm not finding very many 8' wide trailers without them. |

Location: sunny california | if your truck is paid off, maybe go get a loan at a credit union for it. i did that and got more than enough for a fixer LQ. I got it ll fixed up, with a few dollars left over and they got me a maintence plan on a 10 yr old truck LOL |

It's not, just got it in August when my old truck went downhill. But the old truck was just a half ton so the truck had to happen before the trailer anyway.
I've spent the last 4 years fixing the houses I've lived in...I really want to stop fixing stuff. SO finished the 4' dressing room in his trailer, said never again. Wound up being a huge PITA and more money than they initially thought it would be - since he's my technical knowledge helper guy when it comes to stuff like that I kind of need him to be on board. |

| I think it is just as important to shop your loan around as well. We have our truck and trailer financed through our credit union. They gave a WAY better rate than any of the banks at the trailer dealership could do.
As far as mangers I love them. I didn't think I would, but after having them for a few years I do. More importantly, I love the 8' wide. Our horses can back up enough to get their heads down, but I tie them so they can't anyway. They are hard to find that wide without the mangers, but you may be able to spec out a Lakota.
Have fun with it and take your time for the right trailer! |

Location: Oklahoma | I have an 8' wide trailer with 18" mangers. I have two horses that have zero problems in it. 15.1 and 15.2 hands. I was told by someone who really took their time trailer shopping that 18" vs 24" in the mangers makes a big difference in the horse area. I couldn't live without my mangers. Not only is it great for space, but I can keep my trailer ready to go at all times (fans, stall mats, hoses, etc... all those things you only really need if going somewhere overnight) and that saves me stress on pre-show packing.
Take you time trailer shopping... my husband and I spent a solid 13 months from the time he decided that he was on board with the idea of getting one until we actually purchased one. We did wind up going over our budget, but since it has dual purpose (helps him out while he's out of state hunting as well as my hobby) we were okay with spending the extra money. |

They are also a lighter trailer. I will be financing for a long time, but the used sundowner i wanted, the payments were more due to they will not go out long on a used trailer

| We have already discussed the ins and outs of this but I think you will "know" when the trailer you want becomes available.
Also everyone has their own wants and needs. I personally am not into the mangers but I would not be turned off by the stock combo concept.
You have a very reasonable budget and will find exactly what you are looking for soon. :) |

Location: Stuck in a cubicle having tropical thoughts | My advice is to not max out your budget if you don't have to. I have a 3 horse Elite with a weekender that i absolutely LOVE. I paid in the low-mid 20s for it. Do to life situations, I've barely hauled in it occasionaly for 2 summers out of the 4 that I've owned it. It is paid off, but I found i haven't hauled like I thought I would and I've never camped overnight, although I do use the toilet and sink when I do haul to day shows. I'm wishing I would have only spent half my budget and got a 2 horse with dressing room and if I go overnight get a hotel then if i find I'm going overnight a lot, then upgrade. I could have used the money to pay off one of the vehicles, paint the house, re-do the blacktop driveway, etc |
