My mare's fascia muscle within her lower back and hind quarter area is constantly tight. Chiropractic adjustments help but never eliminate the problem. I use a BOT sheet on her whenever hauling or stalling at weekend barrel races but I've yet to see any improvements from it. Wondering what therapy treatment to try next for her and needing some insight as to what works and what doesn't for tight and strained muscles!

Baking soda. Feed 2 TBS daily. You should see results within 2 days if it's caused from the body not assimilating the protein very well. My chiro recommended to for a gelding we have. It made a huge difference in him.

Do you do any stretching with her? There are several good ones that help that area.

I would consider a trip to the vet with a lameness locator and xray machine. Chronically tight and sore muscle can be indicative of joints that hurt, like the hocks.

If a horse is sore in their lower back it usually stems from a problem in the hind end such as hocks/stifles. Especially since the adjustment will not stay.

Ya know.... My colt has always had one stifle/left flank that was tighter and we could never figure it out. However, a friend of mine told me about a spray, works immediately called " Lame Away". A lot of the CA WPRA gals use it and the person that sells it out here is great to talk to. I bought a 16 oz bottle because I am sick and tired of surpass cream ( Messy, sticky, no results). Sure enough, this stuff is AWESOME!!! We also suspected back soreness on my horse to. So at wednesday's jackpot I used it for first time and it really worked amazing!!! As soon as I sprayed it on his back he went to licking his lips and felt and ran/turned SO HARD. Something I had been struggling with. You can use it day of, just before you run etc. THey also make a poultice, and a body wash that you can use before and after runs to take all soreness and muscle pain out. I love this stuff!!! I have a really bad lowr back/compressed disk. THe day It came in the mail I had played tennis for about 3 hours and I could barely get out of the truck. Sprayed it on my back and within about 15 minutes ZERO PAIN. You can use as much of it as you want on multiple areas ( Can't do this with surpass). Won't burn or hurt them ever.

Not sure if I can post her website here I don't think she is an advertiser but all you Californians will know her when you see her name. Very respected barrel racer out here. Just PM me I guess if you want to message her. I do not sell this stuff or anything, just really works

Just to ADD this stuff DOES NOT CURE or treat any ailments, just takes the pain away. My youngster was BORN with an irregularly shaped PATELA on the left side. For what ever reason there was a portion of it that had a weird edge to it and is not smooth as it should. He was never visually lame even with flex tests but when he runs and really uses it we figure its sore around the soft tissues that surround the patela. I use a daily feed through to keep inflammation out ( Curost Pure) and this stuff on race days.

I also know someone else who has had great results with Lame Away and is a distributor.

I would focus on incorporating stretching into your routine.

So you used it on yourself? I ask because my wonderful MIL has terrible arthritis in her back and hands. The closer to infusion day (once a month, I think) the worse her pain gets. She is so brave and never complains. But you can see it dampen her wonderful personality. I would love to find something that could help in those few days. Please PM me if you would rather.

I have a mare that always has a sore back as well. Even using "sheets" (pht, etc). She will still be sore. have injected stifles & hocks & those do not help. I have wondered about kissing spine.... I dont' know much about that tho. I have had her to 2 different vets that are top notch vets but they seem to think its hocks or stifles. Chiro suggested a supplement. Magnesium I think. I have had her to each vet more than once & tell them the injections have not worked. Also she doesn't want to back up real well or use hind end. Which imo is all linked to her sore back. I don't know what else to do.

Absolutely. My chiro has me to stretching as well, I just added this for my piece of mind really. THis horse won't ever indicate pain, only shows it when he runs kind of.. lol So I basically coat him in it.. The body wash is on the way. That should really help with total body soreness.

I agree with others when they say add stretching. Doing butt tuck and tummy lift stretches has really helped my gelding who was constantly out and tight in the hind end. Chiro came and seen him two weeks ago and said he's the least sore he's ever been and looking great. But every time he's groomed he gets stretched. He's built up the muscles behind his shoulders substantially!

Chiros just adjust bones(so your horse may still have big muscular knots). If it is just a muscular issue, get a massage therapist out. If it comes back again after this, then it is most likley sore joints....

Sore lumbar and tight hamstrings can often be signs of hock pain, but alot of horses who are ridden in a hollow uncollected frame, also have these symptoms.  The pain won't go away until they are taught to round their backs and reach up underneath themselves-
