My evidence is purely anectdotal, so take it for what it's worth. We've fed MSM to all our horses for the past 15 years and we've never had joint or arthritis issues with our horses. Our old mare is coming on 18, and is still burning it up. We have a pretty simple supplement regimen, and don't inject, so it would appear that the MSM does help. I know we feel better in our joints when we take it, so I'm sure it helps the horses aso well.

Edited to add: I don't have brand loyalty necessarily, but be careful about the purity. Some brands are 99% pure, some are only 60%. We try to feed the higher purity stuff.

We have also fed it for a number of years. We always feed the Vita Flex brand. It's the more pure stuff. The scoop that comes with the product is quite small so it lasts a long time. We also feed Lubrisyn and have a need for minimal joint injections so I believe the combination is working. I also take people Lubrisyn and KNOW it works for me.

Lubrisyn now has a product with MSM in it, but we will not be switching to it. If my calculations are correct, it will take 62 doses of the new Lubrisyn with MSM to equal one scoop of the Vita Flex MSM. I'd say the new Lubrisyn with MSM doesn't have a lot of MSM in it.

Maybe someone else could do the calculations to make sure I'm correct with my calculations?

I also use MSM and do see results on our horses. As the previous poster said make sure you get the higher purity stuff.

I also mix in a scoop and did notice when I ran out and didn't dose for a couple of days.  He felt much better when I added it back in.  I'll have to check my container for purity.

Look for NASC's seal on the label.   The National Animal Supplement Council seal of quality.
Vita-Flex is a member so you are getting what is said to be in that pail.

I feed the Orschelns brand, 99% MSM to my "old" (14) gelding. He has arthritis in his knee and had lost about 10% range of motion, when I started him on it. Now we live in MO so its rocky. If he has front shoes on he is sound! He does seem to be more sore on that leg if he doesn't have shoes on. When we first started him on it we had to bute him to ride him when the nephew came. I don't have to do that anymore! I started my 22 year old POA on it just because she is old. And I have a 19 year old pony that I give half a scoop to as she was starting to get stiff in her front end. She is feeling just fine now! Almost to good!
The Vita-Flex is like $20 something for like 2 pounds or something. I pay $17 for almost the double amount.

turnedout - 2016-02-27 11:25 AM What is the recommended dosage for MSM?

I use Select the best MSM and this is what is on the bucket:
Loading: Administer 20 grams per day for 1 week. Maintenance: Administer 10 grams per day. Can be given during or after meal time. Note: Scoop included, equals 10 gm (1 oz. = 28 grams)

I pay around $28 for a 4 lbs bucket, get it at Amazon, no shipping and no tax. 4 lbs comes down to 184 doses for 1 horse.
