| I need ideas! I currently haul 2 finished geldings, no problems, can haul my boyfriends rope horse with us to rodeos, haul other girls horses to barrel races no matter if they are mares or gelding, still no issues, but when I put my broodmare on the trailer all hell brakes loose!! She is not mare-ish, is very well behaved, but my one gelding is OBSESSED and I really don't understand it. He will scream for her, paw if he's tied to the other side of the trailer, I can't even really ride away from her without him trying to get back to her or calling for her the entire time we warm up. She wants nothing to do with him, doesn't call back for him etc. I am seriously considering having to sell this mare in order to get my geldings brain back, has anyone had this happen before to one particular horse?? He has never been like this to other mares.. |

| I should have clarified- her filly is weaned I just called her the broodmare out of habit, I was planning on running her this year |

I am having the exact same issue, except my rodeo mare and my gelding that i need to haul. I cant stand it, he looses his brain and becomes a raging hormone when she is arround and I have no way to separate them. I am going to have to sell one i think. |

Location: Alabama | I don't really have any ideas to help but wanted to add that I don't really think this is a gelding/mare issues. Just a sour issue. I've seen mares act the same about other mares and geldings act the same about other geldings. |

I don't have that problem any longer, thank goodness.. Because horses that cause that kind of hassle are not welcome at my barn for very long. When I do have a pair that are buddied up bad I usually leave one, haul the other...
There is a technique that works.. working them when around the buddy and letting them rest when the buddy is out of sight. However with one acting up being tied at the trailer I'm not sure how well that would work. You could always try. I've also had to hobble before when tied to the trailer. One buddy sour mare would paw so bad she'd put dents in the hub caps.

| This is one of the most annoying problems to have I swear. I just think some of them are far more susceptible to acting that way. I had a gelding who was beyond in love with my other gelding. bring one or the other into the barn and they'd put themselves into a sweat losing their minds about it. If they spent significant time apart (leased one out) they both were fine. My two geldings now don't give a crap about each other, and my way of doing things hasn't changed so it's just the way they are apparently. Makes me a little nervous to upset the balance and bring any new horses into the mix. |

| My mare is the same way with any horse we haul with her. It can be a new horse and she has to buddy up to it. Its definetly a struggle. She's fine as long as she can see the horse. At home she's fine, I've had a few problems with it but work through it. Away from home its like the more I try to work her through it the hotter she gets. Good luck I just wanted to let you know your not the only one! |

He will kick scream and holler for her, she will when I'm on her for about five seconds when I start beating her behind with the over n under. But God forbid I tie her next to him at the trailer! You can beat him till you are both black n blue and he won't stop screaming for her. If he can see her when I'm on him he's fine. |

I had a gelding like that with my mare. I had to literally tie him up while I exercised her anywhere away from him. He would do stupid stuff if you didn't and the only way to keep him from doing that was to tie him to a strong post. I worried about him, but I tied him long enough to be comfortable but short enough he couldn't tangle himself up. I'm so glad that he is gone!
One of the main things I ask when looking at a horse anymore is if they are buddied up or buddy sour, as that is a big turn...as big as a bucker. |

| well dang, I may just need to sell her and hope to replace her with something he won't be so obsessed with, he's never buddied up before and I don't understand why he picked her, she literally wants nothing to do with him, but maybe thats why he's so love struck to begin with lol |
