wyoming barrel racer - 2016-03-10 8:45 AM THE GastroPLUS. On sale this month $88 for 30 scoops. Widely used by top trainers on the track.
I am doing this right now, however, I don't think she needs to be on it all year round...looking for something after this is done.
I was told/under the assumption that once you have done a month with THE GastroPLUS then you only need to use it the day b4, day of and day after your race???

That works great for a lot of people. So much depends on how the horse's anxiety is. If they stress out bad on each haul, don't eat well for a couple days after you get home. Then they may need on something during your regular hauling season. But if they just get nervous the day you run them, but still eat fairly well. I do have some customers that feed it before they leave home, during and a couple days after they get back home.  It all depends on the horse.

Matt is feeding all his barrel horses Excel from DePaulo Equine Concepts, and I just started Cliff on it. Streak is eating SmartPak's SmartGI pellets and after a month of them, I think he's less nervous at races. Cliff is getting Excel because I could get ahold of it quicker than more SmartPaks because I had literally just gotten a new month of SmartPaks when I decided to try an ulcer product on Cliff. I think the Excel works out to be cheaper than SmartGI Ultra but about the same price as SmartGI.

I just looked up the Excel from DePaulo Equine. Looks very promising! I have watched his videos on how to tell if your horse may have an issue BUT I never knew he has a line of products. It does contain Aloe powder and Marshmallow root and a few other ingredients. I'm not real fond of probiotics being added but its $70 for a 115 day supply! Might have to look into that.

Forco is a pre biotic, which is fine. Probiotics fed daily have the tendency to over populate certain gut bacteria and leave others underpopulated. THis can lead to all sorts of stuff. The ones in commercial feeds are not usually equine specific, but the same ones found in lots of species. The ones FOREFRONT equine uses are equine specific, but I really don't like to use them. Horses should get all they need from their forage.

Matt started using it after another of our barrel racer friends switched to it from Forco. He said I should be giving a scoop morning and night for the first week, then cut it to once a day. The only thing I don't like is its a powder. Streak is a messy eater and since pellets are easier for him to clean up off the ground after he makes a mess, I try to stick to pelleted supplements for him. I'm hoping the Excel helps line Clifford out because if it doesn't I may be forced to admit that he's nuts. LOL.
