Could I get opinions on a saddle with a hard seat vs a padded seat.

If u go hard seat, do u go 1/2" smaller in the sear size? Comfort?

Any thoughts at all, please..

I say with a hard seat yes, the padding takes up room in the seat so you would go with a smaller seat size. To me a hard seat would really be hard on me as I dont have no padding on my behind so I sit on my butt bones so really need the padded seat.

I had two Martin FX3 saddles. 1 hard seat and 1 padded. I HATED the hard seat and it was way too big. It was a 1/2 size smaller too. I don't think I would buy another.

I've not ridden in many, but I love my boyfriends Infinity hard seat roper. I'm ordering one just like it. I didn't think I'd like it either but it doesn't bother my behind at all.

If you can ride one first I think that's always wise.

If you ride a saddle long enough the padding gets mashed down any ways. The seat is measured from the back of the swells to the leather of the seat, not the stitch line that you so often see people measure to. Hard seat or padded should make no difference in seat size UNLESS the ground seats are different. If you ride a 14 in a saddle with a padded seat you should (in theory) ride a 14 in a hard seat. I prefer a hard seat, not for comfort but aesthetics.

I think it depends on the saddle as well. I cannot ride in my husbands hard seat, but it also might be because it's way to big for me and I barely fit my feet in the stirrups. If it fits you pretty well then it might feel better! Also depends on your butt lol

LOL, my butt bones even hurt when I sit to long on a hard chair. Sucks not having any padding back there.

Oh quit bragging!  LOLOL  Just kidding of course.    I like both, depending on the saddle.  Loved my Jeff Smith hardseat, loved some padded seats i've had, love the Circle Y treeless saddles I have.  Depends more on the set up and how the fenders hang moreso for me whether or not it hurts my hiney.  However the older I get, the more hiney I get too.
