2.5 month old filly has now had diarrhea for a week & a half. Not watery, fluctuates between cowpie and very loose. No fever, regularly nursing, nibbling on food, energetic, etc. Local vet wasnt concerned last week, thought she may just be intaking too much of her moms food. Food hasnt changed since she was born and she's been nibbling on it since a week old. Removed all mom's vitamin supplements (mare plus). Fed soaked beet pulp & pellets with Safechoice special care and always have grasshay in haybag. Have tried kao, probiotics, bio sponge, etc. Gave all acouple days. Have been keeping her on electrolytes. Time to make vet come out?

ETA: Foal has been wormed

Hey Three C, platinum makes a paste exactly for this purpose. THey also give it to adult horses with these conditions. Its called " Bio Sponge" comes in a daily powder or a paste/tube. Would not surprise me if you heard of it from your other horse's experience. It works exceptionally well on everything I have ever used it on.

Morning! Yes, as mentioned above Bio Sponge has been tried. 3 tubes (6 doses) with no improvement. Thank you!

I know it is not intended for foal scours, but I have had good luck with GastroPlus from THE (foal size dose), I give that with Probios.  Have you pulled blood yet?

Is it possible that your mare has a heavy worm load and it is having a negative effect on the foal? Or is the mare having a heavy heat cycle maybe? I am the type to over react as a general rule so I would probably have the vet out for a full work up on both of them.

Have you tried yogurt? We had a yearling filly get the scours the vet thought it was from some weed. We tried everything nothing helped. We gave her yogurt and saw improvement within 2 days. It saved her life. We have used it several times since then.
Dannon is the best plain or vanilla. 1/2 cup once a day.

Also she isn't where she is licking a salt block, mineral block  or protein tub? Foals will get started eating those things untill they scour themselves.

This. I would worm both mare and foal with Safeguard/panacur and see if this didn't help. It's a safe product for a foal of this age. We deworm the mares a few days/ couple of weeks before foaling and the foals after 45 days or so and regulary after that. JT

Foal was wormed at 7 weeks with panacur. Mare was not wormed prior to worming ( my mistake ). Is it safe to worm her now even tho foal has been wormed already? This original started towards the end of my mares recent heat cycle so I originally assumed that's what had started it, but it appears not.

Yep, and it works. If she were my filly though I would get the vet out. Foals can crash very very quickly. Look fine at 7:00 a.m. and be in dire straights by noon.
