Parrot mouth question

Has anyone ever ran a horse with parrot mouth? Or know much about it? Looking at a 3 yr old mare that has it and owner says doesn't bother her with eating. What other issues could there be?

There's another thread going on right now discussing parrot mouth. You might want to check it out.

I've started/ridden many. It's never been a problem. Many people say they won't have normal feel in their mouth, along with being hard keepers. I've not had either problem.
I would definitely recommend more frequent checks by your dentist to make sure they don't develop ramps or waves, etc.

I've have a really good dentist evaluate her first and explain what kind of dental work she's going to require. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but it will definitely affect resale value down the line.

I agree and have had vets tell me the same.
Good chance if you ever breed her that she'll pass it on. Some are genetic, some are not but you should assume that.
One of the easiest keeping sheep herder horses I ever saw was a severe parrot mouth. He never got a bit of anything like hay or grain. Just grass in the night. He was ridden all the daylight hours. Fat as a little pig. Not gorgeous, but he really did his job.
If you like her and are looking for a horse to ride, not breed, go for it.
