Hey y'all, I was wondering if anyone needed a intern this summer? I had one lined up but the lady it was with had things come up so now I can't do it with her. I'm still a beginner rider and I'm really wanting to improve my horse riding skills. I currently work at a reining horse ranch and there I lunge, saddle, bath, and do general barn chores. I normally get to ride the old stallion we have out there once every two weeks and I take lessons once every week with a barrel trainer. I'm really wanting a internship where I can help around the barn and y'all can teach me to ride better. I would like to get to ride everyday if that's possible. I have places to stay in Mineral Wells Tx, Sanger Tx, and Abilene Tx so if the internship is not around those areas it will need to be live in. I'm 17 and have a car so transportation is not a problem for me. Please message me or comment on here if you have any questions. Thank you!

Sorry to burst your bubble (I really am) but many internships are looking for what you can help THEM with. Not saying that there aren't places that will take you in and help you, but many places are needing people who they don't have to watch over.

Be careful who you work for... myself and a friend of mine both got internships on what we thought were reputable horse farms and the owners ended up being sorry excuses for human beings. Many are like this and will treat you horribly and not give you the time of day. Most places will only let you ride if you are a trainer or really know your stuff. Most likely you'd be cleaning stalls, helping breed horses and doing other various jobs. Good luck! I hope your experience is better than ours and many others was, if you do get a job and they treat you terribly, don't feel you have to stay.

Second this. Know your rights as a low paid/unpaid intern, and know them well. I had to quit an internship earlier this summer that I had been looking forward to for months because the trainers just wanted free labor without actually fulfilling their end of the bargain, acknowledging my promised days off, or being honest about the type of work- all things that would make it an illegal internship. But luckily I was offered a new one right off the bat at a place where I'm learning a ton, so good people ARE out there.
