Location: sunny california | SC Wrangler - 2016-05-18 11:29 AM The huge budget shortfall in Okla. is mostly due to production tax collections, because those taxes are based on the price of oil. Not the first time this has happened, but our "leaders" are obviously to short-sighted to plan ahead. Instead of trying to accumulate a surplus for a rainey day, they gave an income tax cut to the upper tax brackets and gazillions in corporate welfare. Why worry about education, child welfare, the elderly, the uninsured when they can give the gift that keeps on giving -- to the people that will fund their election campaigns.
It always amazes me the short sightedness of taxspenders.... when you have a winfall you don't rush in and increase the entire budget just to spend and then have responsibilities along with it. (increased salaries and more retirements) you save some for a rainy day then maybe replace/maintain infrastructure. perhaps invest in something that is desperately needed. we need water here and i just don't get how we are getting a high speed train that is a money pit and never going to work and if it did will service so few. we also have roads that are looking pretty bad.winfalls should be spent on one time expenditures |

Location: Roping pen | Not a tax problem...our country, states, and local government, have a spending problem.
I am on the local fair board. Our budget is ~125k a year of which 80k comes from taxes. We tried a few years ago to be self sufficient and $0 of tax request. Was advised by our local government, NOT to do that period...the board all thought we could make it work once we paid off some debt. But they said, if we give it up, we would never get it back and it would be spent else where.
Good luck! |
