I would like to hear how people manage their flat footed horse with shoes or barefoot. Thanks.

Mine wasn't severely flat footed but he did lean that direction. He was the last one I switched over to barefoot and it was amazing to watch how fast his foot cupped up.....so quickly , he actually had wrinkles in his sole! We did have to put boots on him for several weeks and anytime we were going to be on a lot of concrete or gravel but that was 6 or 7 years ago. Never went back to shoes and had zero problems.

I had one that was bad. After a year and two months barefoot, trimming every 4 weeks, and being booted she wasn't showing much improvement. I sold her and was happy to see her go. Everything else on my place is barefoot, sound, and happy.

I keep mine shod and we do not try to "cup" his feet out at all. We went through 2 years of soundness issues and since we quit trying to cup his feet we have had no problems at all.

My flat footed mare is shod and we are finally making improvements. Hoping by next summer I can have her back to barefoot. I was making no progress having her barefoot and trimmed every 4 weeks so finally last fall we put shoes on and her feet have made huge improvements now.

I trim my own. I make sure that the foot is pulled back under the leg by pulling the heel all the way back to the base of the frog so that the heel is under the bulb of the foot basically. Keep the toe pulled back as well. I use either Rickens or Durasole on my horses feet as needed, but rarely need to use it.

I keep mine shod. His soles are thin so barefoot is not an option.
