Elite Veteran Posts: 679 Location: KS	I'm sorry this is a long post, but... I have a 7 year old mare I bought a little over a year ago. I was told she was broke and ready for a job. The day I went to try her out, it was dark, wet and cold. I didn't test her like I should have. Now let me just say this mare is NOT broke. She is scared of anything and everything! You can't even pick up grass and feed her without her flinging her head and rearing back. I'm her third owner. I came across some videos of her with her first owners doing a trail class and another one of a 10 year old doing lessons on her?????? I got a hold of her first owners and they told me she was a lesson horse and took her on a bunch of trails. But for some reason she is now scared of her own shadow??? I have never been scared to work with ahorse before and she terrifies me.... I don't want to hurt myself. I also just had a baby and I'm not wanting really wanting to spend a bunch of money for her to go to the trainers. .I've tried selling her, but just a bunch of young kids want her for 4H. I'm not going to sell her and have someone get hurt.. I'm on a limb and don't know what to do with this mare.. Any advice or tips?? *.Also, I know it's my fault for not testing her.

Shelter Dog Lover Posts: 10277	Are you willing to spend a little money to vet her? Seems like maybe something happened to her. We had one change and found out he was loosing the sight in one eye, read another story of one that was put down because of aggressive behavior, vet found a tooth growing in his jaw that was extremely painful. Another option is to cut your losses, sell her cheap and find someone willing to take her on, full disclosure of her issues. There are people out there who like to work with troubled horses. You could give her to a reputable rescue.
