| Im looking at a really nice paint mare but she has 4 white feet. Any concerns with that? Ive only owned sorrels/bays, so ive never had a concern with feet. |

| Good to know. She needs eyeliner on her right side. Would you roughly know how much that costs? |

Location: Southern Michigan | I'm not sure if that's a myth or not, I'm trying to discover that myself. My advice is take your farrier to look at her first if you're concerned, and talk to the current farrier. That's my plan from now on. My mare has four white feet and they are so soft and a pain in the butt to deal with. I have to keep shoes on year round, or she's too ouchy to do anything. Not to mention she rips them off constantly, so my farrier is on speed dial. I believe it's probably more genetic based than just color of the feet, but could very well be possible to contain some truth. There are so many supplements out there now to promote strong hoof growth too! If she's a nice horse, you like her, and have a good farrier, you should be fine. I've had multiple farriers threaten to throw in the towel with my girl. So my next horse will be vet and farrier tested |

| I've got a horse with 4 white feet, they are super hard. I keep him barefoot at least half the year and he does great, and we have really rocky ground. |

Location: SE KS | I also have a Paint mare with 4 white feet, she was born on our property, so we have owned her all her life. I have heard all the "stories" about white feet. She has good feet, my farrier comes every 6 weeks to trim all my horses, so I've never had any issues with her feet & she goes barefoot all the time no matter where I take her!!!
IMO: work till you get them straightened out, then maintain them! |

| My gelding has two white feet and they crack much easier than his other two. We started painting them with Rain Maker and we haven't had any problems since. |

Yep--the theory that white feet are soft is a myth.

Your vet is correct. But there is an optical illusion that comes with them. I've seen it many times. If you have a white foot along side of a black one, front or back, the white foot will look longer. Countless times I've seen this and had to measure to confirm they were the same length. |

| I have a paint with all white feet. She's just a trail and kid horse but she's got nice feet. My tb has one white foot and it seems to grow faster than the others. Its just something I've noticed. |

| Ditto it is a myth. Depends on the horse. Worst hooked horse I ever owned was black hoofs. |

| My horses white feet are the hardest and sturdiest, the blacks are the ones I have issues with. |

Location: North Dakota | It's an old wives tale. According to every professional I've encountered, the color of the hooves has nothing to do with how tough they are. My horse may not be the best example, as he is a paint with striped hooves that aren't bad but not great. But I had one horse with 4 solid black feet and his fronts were so bad he required all sorts of special farrier work and my palomino, with some black and some white hooves, had THE nicest feet I have ever seen. |
