Location: Alberta, Canada | Ran my mare on Lasix for first time today. 3cc 3 hours out. She's had the time off, etc since last run.... Not looking for ridicule or any type of direction regarding that. Just looking for others who have had horses bleed thru Lasix and what the next step would be. I have chatted with my vet as well but I'm a little skeptical and shy now... Not a great experience for a first time Lasix user lol.

| 3 ccs isn't very much. Texas A&M will tell you 5-10 ccs, at least 3 hours out.
So now you're looking at 2 months off, and antibiotics. I'd start riding her again in 30 days, but gently, no hard runs until two months.
Make sure to have a full diagnostic done on flappers, mine was bleeding and had a flapper issue. Had the tie back surgery, three runs back with 5 ccs of Lasix, so far so good. Run her in a tongue tie to keep her from getting her tongue over the bit, just in case it was a contributing factor.
Check she's not getting her tongue over the bit and choking on it. Check that she doesn't need flare strips. There's some supplements for bleeders, I'm using Formula 707 line for respiratory issues. I don't know if it works, but she doesn't have a runny nose and so far so good.
Make sure she's not got allergies going too, and be sure to keep her environment as dust free as possible. Don't ride or warm up or park in the dusty areas either.
Get her as legged up and as fit as you possibly can.
If you do all the above, and still bleeding through, look into Alcar and Kentucky Red. |

Location: Great Places Great Faces | First off don't beat yourself up, it happens! Secondly 3cc is a very small amount, I would talk to your vet first but my mare runs on 8cc 2 hours out. Especially in the summer when it's this hot, I even go 1 1/2 out. I also give clenbuterol the day of the race am/pm I have had great luck with this combo. |
