| I was surprised to see the number of people that participated in those raffles. I could not bring myself to spend money on a chance to get something. I just as soon buy what I want. Kinda like throwing your money out the door if you don't win. No thank you! |

| MO gal - 2016-07-22 4:17 PM Besides being a scam, I believe that random draws are actually illegal in most states. People call it "random draw" thinking that gets around the "raffle" drawing restrictions. I think there was a thread/discussion about that just a month or so ago.
its illgeal im georgia i ask my attorney about doing my covered arena not a good idea its illegal bummer |

Location: Northwest Florida | I was not surprised to see this mess at all. I was a member of the group but never participated. This is exactly what I predicted happening when this trend took off on the horse sale pages. These were young girls, too. I saw in the screen shots where the one said "My Dad told me I better not cheat". Since she's a minor I wonder if she can even face any consequences.
It's sad to see, but not surprising unfortunately. What I find strange is the group is still going and people are still buying slots...?? I know there was an admin change but still I would assume people would have learned their lesson. |

No, I do believe she is an adult, although just barely. I know the face but don't know her personally. Still, hard to say regardless of age if she will be prosecuted. Have no idea about the other girl. I'm just glad I wasn't in that group at all. Those things make me skeptical. Still, what a dumb greedy scam they pulled. I wouldn't want to be them pulling up to a barrel race for a long long time... |

Do tell!! I haven't seen anything. Apparently a girl created like 12 fake facebook pages, and buddied up to one of the Admin's of the facebook group. They were in it together. Basically this individual would "buy" spots using her account and various fake accounts, then this admin would "draw" pretty much multiple times to get the individuals draw number on either accounts so they could win. She's walked off with over $1,000 worth of items they are stating.
Plus her family is involved as well.
People are so crappy. I can see how it would be so easy to scam people this way, I wouldn't participate unless I personally knew them and knew it was legit.
A lot of people DID know her personally. I think most of the people that bought tickets knew them.
She was also a DAC dealer as I understand it. Major problems. but the video's of other drawings were available but not sure if they still are.
They are illegal here in Florida. In this case, they did the "drawings" by hand with names written on tickets or pieces of paper. In some of the more ligit draws, they use a secure web page and it has to have been set up prior...the computer does a true random draw. The pieces of paper should have been a big red flag.
They are still illegal here in Florida, not sure about other states but at least with the computer draw you can't do the repete video of multipal draws.
There seemed to be plenty of proof but rumors were that family members were also involved. No idea on that. |

I haven't seen much on it now.. They disabled comments on the one thread I can find. Hoping people don't just forget and let them get away with it completely. I know DAC posted on their FB about it but that was the last thing I had seen. |

You and me both. I was hoping something legal had been done by now concerning the two involved. I asked to join the random draw page and whoever the new admin is accepted me. There's no trace of it ever happening on the page last I checked.... Thanks for the reply. |

| Looks like a new page has been started to take the place of the scam one. PayPal is sending out this message though:
"Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive
payments for activities that involve an entry fee and a prize, such as
raffles, drawings or lotteries. Due to applicable laws and industry
regulations, we do not offer approval for these types of transactions.
For more information about the status of your account and for instructions
on how to restore full use of your account, please log in to your PayPal
account and select the "Resolution Center" link. On the next page select
the "Resolve" button/s located under the Action column, in the Steps to
Provide More Information section and follow the applicable instructions."
The new page is telling people to make sure not to put raffle or random draw on the payment. Just use what the item is to get around this issue with PayPal. |

Oh ok. I just assumed she was a minor due to way she spoke, and seemed to be still living with parents from the conversation.
If she's an adult that's even more sad.
It's good to see the Paypal update from SKM though. That should help put a stop to all of it. |

Nope. These groups are telling people to just put what the item is on the PayPal and leave out raffle, random draw, etc so PayPal won't freeze it. |

If you invoice via PayPal you can put whatever you want in the item description..... I'm not so sure it's going to stop people. People are still oblivious of the friends and family pay option too. People post everyday on scams through friends and family and they had no idea PayPal wouldn't cover them until it was too late. PayPal is great. I Invoice people daily and would rather pay the small fee to use an invoice than to get taken on an item. Keep in mind if you as a seller do not provide PayPal with a tracking number your customer can get the item, claim they never got the item, and take back the money they just paid you. You have to enter the tracking the second you get the tracking number. |
