If you didn't lope that horse for an hour+ per day she would pitch you 8 ft in the air and wouldn't quit until she was dog tired. She would literally snap in half. If you gave her a day off it was like her brain didnt work right. I have heard this about a few others as well. I don't like their minds. How old was she?
What is her registered name?
I've heard this before but I'm usually unable to verify the information.
She was 6 when I sold her and Im honestly not 100% sure on her registered name anymore. She was awful. I know it had "whiskey girl" in it but I can't remember the first part |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | I work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the horse division and we have a PIW son standing at stud. We had 8 babies born by him this year. All good looking, very smart babies. He really marks his colts. I can't tell you how broncy they are yet, we will start riding his first babies next year. But so far, they look the part and are very intelligent. |

So a little off topic but I have to ask...Why the TDCJ has a breeding stallion? |

Loved everything about him. He was put together perfectly, smart, laid back, huge work ethic, was never a bronc, and holy cow was he athletic! He was on track for 5 yo barrel futurities when we lost him to colic.
I looked up his sire a few years ago and he had passed. Can't think of his name right off hand. I would for sure try another one! |

I think they have their own mares for breeding for the Texas Prisons, they use the horses they breed for the prison guards I think.. Google and see what comes up.. The Texas Prisons here still use horses to watch over the prisonsers working out in fields. And they have sales too I'm thinking.
You learn something new everyday. Do they have running water in these prisons? lol |

I must have misunderstood the question you had on why TDCJ has a breeding stallion, so I thought I would help you out on the question. |

That was my question and you answered it perfectly. Then I proceded to be a smart ass about the running water. Insinuating that it seems a little old fashioned (even though I think it is cool) that they still use mounted guards. |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | We have breeding stallions because TDCJ is the largest producing cattle operation in Texas! More than the King ranch and Waggoner!! We provide horses for the field force officers, livestock (cattle) bosses, and dog kennels. Surprisingly to some, we have some VERY well bred horses. Currently we have a grandson of Three Jets, the PIW son and several others. We also bred some to He's Pretty Smooth the last few years. He's by Dual Pep out of Smooth as a Cat's momma! We don't currently have our "remuda" like sales anymore, but do sell some culls in Elkhart, Texas every few months. Some of our culls turn out to be pretty nice horses. We are currently working on bringing back our horse sale where we would focus on good, broke colts and a few finished horses.

Very cool. I had no idea this operation even existed. |
