| I'm at my wits end feeding my horses that are pastured 24/7. They tip their muck buckets spilling feed all over the ground. I put heavy duty mats out to try and feed them on those, when it rains here, they get sunk in and just covered with thick nasty mud.. in fact, I can't even see my mats at this point. I had a thought that I could buy those 100 gallon Rubbermaid or galvanized water troughs and place those on pallets to feed them their hay and grain in. I was thinking I could even somehow bolt them to the pallet. My horse has a horrible habit of carrying off the feed buckets to the middle of the pasture. Think there would be any safety issues bolting a large trough to a heavy pallet? My fencing is all hot wire so I'm kinda limited on attaching anything to the fence. I'm open for suggestions. I'm just tired of watching them eat their grain off the ground from spilling it and I feel like feeding my hay in the trough would lessen some waste as well..

I think the rubbermate troughts would be a good ideal |

Believe it or not my horse figured out how to get the feed pan I was using for loose minerals and salt out of the tire I had it wedged in lol! I don't know how but he did...he's a mess |

I have another name I call him when I'm mud whoomping out to the middle of the sludge of a pasture right now to go fetch his feed bucket  |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | Pallets are weak wood with a bunch of nails so keep a good eye on them. If they will sit in mud then they won't last too long. |

| I use plastic barrels cut in half lengthwise for feed troughs. Even if the horse paws it, it will rock back up. Good for feeding hay or feed. |

| Buy a equine round bale feeder. Built the center up on pallets or similar, cover with rubber mats. Feed hay directly onto rubber mats in the center of said round bale feeder. Grain tubs can also go in there, tie in so they can't get carried off. Works charmingly. |

| I'm redoing a lot of my fence right now so I had to make some temporary feeders. I took th large plastic water tanks and they have holes on the top rim, threaded a piece of twine through and tied it to a t posts. My fence is hot on top only so I haven't had an issue with it! |

Location: Jersey Girl | I use a 40 gallon water tub as a feed trough for my one gelding. He tips anything else over or will eventually rip the feeder off the fence. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | You can get heavy plastic pallets as well. That would last and not have the nails like the wood ones. You can drill holes and bolt down the tub.

Location: Kansas | I use plastic mineral tubs. I have two yearlings who enjoy dragging, tipping and carrying off feed pans.....so I used the mineral tubs, drill a hole in one side and use wire to wrap it around a t-post I have set up by the bale feeder. |

Location: Windoming | I use the 100 gallon Rubbermaid water troughs for hay feeders, usually after they have a crack or something makes them unsuitable for water! They will tip them over and rough them up a bit! lol When my son was in high school, he made us a feeder from barrels and sucker rod that I just love. We also have big wooden feed troughs that last forever. We've had one for over 25 years. Horses have never chewed on it, must have horse repellent on it! |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I've been feeding/haying my mare out of a 40 gallon rubbermade water tub for a month now. She's notorious for tipping, carrying, re-arranging, sticking her feet into... She has scooted it around some, but hasn't tipped it or pooped in it yet. |
