| I would really like to start getting my horses back fit.
I have a crazy busy 2 year old, like she is 160% 28 hours a day. My other 2 kids are so easy compared to her.
I also can not ride until sept anyway, but I would love to get to some late fall jackpots.
Can you get a horse fairly fit ponying out a truck window or lunging them?
What do you all do? |

| I got up before my husband and busy body were awake to ride before I left for work. It actually worked out great since I got my riding in without feeling guilty for missing out on any family time after work. I am due with our second daughter the end of October so I'm hoping to start that same routine of early morning rides when I get back to riding in Dec/Jan |

| My son watches movies in the truck (with AC on of course) while I ride... He's also two and a busy body! I will sometimes ride one and pony the other out on the back 40 or if no one else is around I let him play with his trucks in the arena dirt while I ride. Or I go during nap/ after he's in bed. It's really really hard! |

I wouldn't take them straight back to barrel racing after only ponying and lunging them for several months, but I would definitely think they would be ready faster if you were doing this all along rather than them just sitting in the pasture.

Location: SW North Dakota | When my kids were little (my daughter was a high-powered toddler), I built a kid corral out of stockade panels. It had a tent in it, and "special" toys that they could only use while I rode. That and loping circles around the running car while she napped or EARLY morning/late evening rides with a headlamp... where there's a will, there's a way! :) |

Location: Oklahoma | With my 2 year old I have a little play area for her in the arena. I mean all the toys we can get and she is pretty good about keeping to that area less she needs something then will come and get me. I just keep a safe distance away just incase she comes out running needing me I have time to get off the horse to get down and get to her. I also do a lot of riding when she is sleeping, like early morning before work, now its a lot harder being as it doesnt get light enought till 6:30 but she goes to bed about 8 and I will go out and ride with a headlamp and have a baby moniteor just in case she wakes up.

| My little guy is now 3 almost 4 and he's easier now, but I still HAVE to have someone watch him or he'll get in trouble. Nothing bad, but he's always been too big for his britches and will do something like go feed the horses in the corral, climb any and everything, head out on his bike with the dogs....he's very busy. My family and husband were pretty helpful but I still only got to ride 2-3x a week. Now that he's older it's a lot easier and he can go with dad to work on stuff so I can ride. I would never try to ride if it was just him and I. I've been in too many wrecks and accidents with horses and if I was to get hurt or knocked out he'd be alone until someone showed up. So while I hate not being able to go ride whenever I want, I remind myself it won't always be this way and pretty soon I'll be wishing he was little again! |

I had surgery I could not do anything. They were ridden regulary before, bit mu sustem and place is no longer avaible now.
And I said I would LIKE to, not that I was going no matter what and hurt my horse.

I did that a lot last winter, just rode around the truck and the kids got to color or nap. It did work pretty good. I lead her out the window to the spot, rode and cooled her off out the window. |
