Ok, this may be a rather long winded post but here it goes; So July 4, my best horse ran through a fence due to bottle rockets being shot INTO our field (yes i know our neighbors are lovely ...but thats neither here nor there) ANYWAY, he ended up having to get his face stitched up (it was a nasty gash) and he was pretty well scraped up from head to toe so obviously he needed time off...... well he had the entire month of July off and most of August...actually the first show i took him to was August 20. (yes i was riding him at home prior to the barrel race once the vet cleared him to do so, so its not like he sat for over a month! lol) so i took him to the barrel race, warmed up fine but ran ALL OVER the pen and when he would go to rate (which he barely did) he was VERY bouncy and almost crow hoppy....which is the total opposite of what he normally does, he is normally so smooth and fluid. I just need to know everyone's experiences with a horse that possibly needs injections? Or if there are any alternatives to getting injections? I obviously am not riding him until i can get the vet out....but i was just wanting to see everyone else's opinions first. I am in the process of uploading the videos, one before the accident when he ran in the bottom of the 1d and one from the past weekend)
Unfortunately there was another video showing the hopping im talking about but i cannot get it to upload.... so this is the best ive got for now! lol if i can get it to upload later i will post it as well

Before the accident : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVa_EqzA7sc
After the accident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUxfaKfIzGA (i feel bad whipping him out but i thought he was just being an a$$... oops)

He's getting away from something that's for sure. Right when he goes to switch going into 2nd, he snaps his tail then roots his nose. I would get a full lameness and go from there. Good luck!

Fully agree with Smokin Girlie...also at the first from one race to the other....It looks like he slowed way down to make the turn without having to sit down. He didn't REALLY want to turn that one either but not near as bad as the scond.  In the first he was snappy on his rear, in and out, in the after race video, it was rough, slow, and awkward looking, then to commit to the second and jump out, def hurting somewhere.

There is a new cream textured therapy by equine biomed they have a website but there Facebook page has more details and I have seen some pretty amazing results!! It's the only thing like it on the market!! They are currently doing a introductory offer at $100 a tube! I posted pictures below of all the info (:

Nothing new to add other than I would skip the previcox and go straight to the vet.  The tail swishing and nose rooting are proof enough he is hurting.  He could have definitely tweaked his back or have some other injury from his wreck with the fence.  We had one go through a wood fence over night, nasty huge opening on his chest, stitched him up and doctored all the other scrapes.   What we didn't do was X-ray for other injuries and sure enough he had a chip in his front knee that did not show up till we started working him again.   We had xrayed that knee a prior to the fence wreck and  if was clean.

Don't have the vet out. Go to the vet and make sure the vet is checking him on a hard surface after flexing. Your near rood and riddle, dr bennet, or your a pretty good haul to Dr. Meeker. I do NOT recommend UT when searching for lameness. Don't go local when looking for lameness because changes are your gonna spend more money treating the wrong things...

Go to Rood and Riddle they read ultra sounds every day not just "once in awhile" its well worth the higher price and the haul. Call and make an appointment with Dr.Hopper's secretary. They have payment plans.

To add to ^^^ I would have a chiropractor out to see him! It's amazing how them being "out" can affect their performance. It may be a cheaper start anyways. :)

We actually DID have the chiro out to look him over on 8/19. He was out EVERYWHERE... so i thought that he may have just been sore from getting adjusted also but after that did not go away I knew it was something more. Thank you everyone for the input!!

Run some EPM meds through him, cheap and easy. I have noticed a lot of times they seem bouncy in ass end, get hocks injected, and turns out treating for EPM was what they needed. For some reason I have seen a correlation with needing hock injections/EPM.... Good luck!

I would get him to a good chiropractor as well as going to the vet.

Sorry, just read all the replies. You already did the chiropractor. Hopefully the vet will be able to help :)
